Netflix announces Twilight series with a twist and OG fans are all saying the same thing

Netflix is set to jump on the Twilight hype train to bring us a new series which will act as an alternative retelling of the vampire love story.

The Twilight novels, written by Stephenie Meyer, spawned five blockbuster films that launched the careers of Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan) and Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen).

The star-crossed lovers, one human, one vampire, were simply unable to let their differences keep them apart in passages and scenes that had Twilight fans absolutely hooked.

Plus, there was that iconic baseball scene.

It's no wonder the fans can't seem to let it go - and neither can the bigwigs at streaming companies.

Stephenie Meyer wrote an accompanying novel to the Twilight universe, Midnight Sun, which was published in 2020 - and Netflix has jumped at the chance to adapt it into an animated series.

Midnight Sun is a retelling of the first Twilight novel, told entirely from Edward's perspective.

Fans simply cannot wait and all seem to share the opinion that it's going to be something very special.

One person wrote: "Wow, an animated twist on Edward’s perspective! This could bring a whole new vibe to the Twilight saga."

Another said: "Wait they better take their time with this one, this has the chance of being REALLY good!"

A third added: "I wish I could explain how deeply this is going to affect me for the rest of my life."

To rehash your memory, in the first novel, 17-year-old Bella moves to Forks, Washington, with her police officer dad.

After enrolling at the local school, she meets Edward, and the two become friends, with Edward becoming very protective over Bella.

Bella learns that Edward is a vampire and Bella duly does her research.

Despite Edward attempting to reject her to avoid any complications, the two fall in love regardless, with her friend Jacob Black warning her against the seemingly doomed relationship.

Edward saves Bella's life once again, this time from fellow vampires who are attempting to hunt her for sport. As a result, the two fall further in love.

Bella wishes to become a vampire, but Edward refuses to 'turn' her, as he thinks being a vampire is akin to being a monster.

The novel is told entirely from Bella's perspective, so Midnight Sun is set to be explosive stuff as fans will finally know how Edward felt throughout all of the bloodthirsty drama.

Author Meyer will serve as executive producer on the series, with a release date yet to be announced.
