Netflix viewers are still reeling over a shocking true crime docuseries that was first released back in 2019.

The three-part docuseries captivated viewers and raced to Netflix's top spot upon release.

It opens with news that disturbing and violent videos involving cats and kittens are being spread around the internet, and a team of Facebook sleuths band together to find the culprit.

What they uncover is beyond anybody's wildest imaginations - and is one of the most shocking true crime cases of all time.

Don't F**k With Cats: Hunting An Internet Killer focuses on how online avengers closed in on Canadian native Luka Magnotta.

Magnotta, who was born as Eric Newman in Ontario and worked for a time as a porn actor, was found to be the man behind the sadistic animal abuse videos.

But through the work of online sleuths and eventually the authorities, it was uncovered that he had also committed a human murder - that of Chinese university student Jun Lin in 2012.

As police pursued Magnotta's arrest, this led to the killer going on the run - and the further details that emerged and what this led to was almost as shocking as his depraved crimes.

It came to light that Magnotta was desperate to be famous, and that he had set up a minimum of 70 Facebook pages and 20 websites in order to sing his own praises and attract attention for his looks.

As well as the upsetting animal abuse videos, Magnotta went on to anonymously post a video of himself murdering and mutilating his victim online.

He also sent some of Lin's body parts to schools and offices of political parties in Canada.

Lin had met Magnotta after responding to a Craigslist ad that the killer had posted.

One possible motive put forward by officials was that Magnotta, who had previously been diagnosed as schizophrenic, had a desire to live out the thriller film, Basic Instinct.

Viewers are still unable to digest what they've watched - and mark it as one of the most affecting documentaries they have ever seen.

One person wrote on X: "To this day i still haven't seen a true crime documentary as good as Don't F**k With Cats."

Another said: "Does anyone else have a true crime documentary that lives permanently in your head forever bc i think i have Don't F**k With Cats memorised by heart."

And a third added: "Don’t F**k With Cats is the most unpredictable true crime documentary I’ve ever seen — legitimately stood up and screamed during the final episode."

Don't F*** With Cats is available to stream on Netflix now.
