Outer Banks fans have been left in shock after spotting what they claim to be ‘stunt doubles’ in a cuddling scene.

The second part of the hit Netflix show’s fourth season dropped on Thursday (7 November).

The adventure series centres on a teens John B (Chase Stokes), Sarah (Madelyn Cline), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), JJ (Rudy Pankow) and Cleo (Carlacia Grant), otherwise known as the Pogues, growing up in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

One of Outer Banks' biggest storylines involves the romance between JJ and Kiara (or Kie for short), and their on-screen coupling has been the source of fan pandemonium over the years. Pankow and Bailey are not dating in real life.

In one scene, both characters can be seen cuddling each other, however, the camera angles and the way the scene is cut has made viewers question whether the two actors actually filmed together.

And the moment has sent fans into a frenzy, with many taking to social media to share their thoughts.

While sharing a screenshot of the scene, one asked: “No way they had a JJ stunt double when Kie was laying on him???????”

Another added: “Stunt doubles for a cuddle is just crazy I have never seen this in my life??”

Some viewers also referenced Stokes and Cline, who are now exes after dating during the show's earlier seasons. Their characters, John B and Sarah, are in a relationship on the show.

One wrote: “The fact Sarah and John B can be so in love in the show still after irl break up is amazing.”

And someone else theorised: “What impresses me more is they were able to convince the showrunner to make this accommodations LWNSJSJS back in my day they used to drag u back on set for 10 more seasons if u hated ur co-star.”

Tyla has contacted representatives for Rudy Pankow, Madison Bailey and Netflix for comment.

Earlier this month Netflix confirmed that Outer Banks would return for a fifth and final season.

The show’s creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke announced the bittersweet news in a letter written to fans.

They penned: "In the summer of 2017, we came across a photo of teenagers on a beach at dusk during a power outage. That photo sparked an idea for a story of four best friends who only want to have a good time all the time. From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting, and friendship."

The statement added: "Now, with a little sadness, but also excitement, we’re putting season four behind us, and are turning to season five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago. Season five will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet. We hope you'll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break."

All four seasons of Outer Banks are available to stream on Netflix now.
