I know many of us right now are cosying up and watching festive classics like The Holiday and Love Actually, but anyone who's got a taste for slightly more action will be chuffed to know there's an 'outstanding' thriller' to sink their teeth into on Netflix.

The sci-fi flick has been hailed as a 10/10 with some viewers even going as far to claim it's better than the hit psychological-thriller, Leave The World Behind, that first hit our screens earlier this month (8 December).

Check out the official trailer here:

The synopsis of the film, titled I Am Mother, reads: "A sci-fi thriller about a teenage girl (Clara Rugaard), who is the first of a new generation of humans to be raised by Mother (Rose Byrne), a robot designed to repopulate the earth after the extinction of humankind.

"But the pair’s unique relationship is threatened when an injured stranger (Hilary Swank) arrives with news that calls into question everything Daughter has been told about the outside world and her Mother’s intentions."

I Am Mother first hit theatres back in 2019 but there seems to be a renaissance of hype around it now that it's being compared to Leave The World Behind.

People clearly couldn't wait to sink their teeth into the sci-fi flick with many rushing to social media to share their verdicts on it.

One Facebook user penned: "This was outstanding!" while a second praised: "Fantastic!"

"I loved this movie so much," gushed a third while a fourth chimed in: "

A fifth viewer hit out: "Yes now that’s a good movie that tells a good story and no deers running through it," which is a direct reference to Leave The World Behind and its recurring trope of deers popping up throughout the film, to which another Facebook user replied 'Leave The World Behind' with a load of laughing emojis.

Ouch.

Others took to YouTube to share their thoughts with one fan writing: "Best sci-fi film I've seen in a long time. Smart, suspenseful, strong acting."

People are hailing the film as the 'best sci-fi' they've ever watched.
Netflix

"This is one of the best sci-fi movies I've ever watched! Super underrated!" echoed a second. "Yes, a sequel, or even a prequel, should be in the works!!!"

A third added: "This is one of Netflix's best science fiction movies yet! Clara Rugaard delivers a brilliant performance. Hillary Swank delivers a powerful supporting role.

"There's robotic artificial intelligence (AI), Isaac Asimov's three laws of robotics, a view of humanity as selfish and violent, etc., a very deep and thought provoking film that is wonderfully directed and written. It must be viewed several times for clarity!"

Well, I know what I'll be watching tonight.

I Am Mother is currently available to watch on Netflix.
