Jamie Foxx recalls how his daughter helped save his life after nearly dying in hospital

Jamie Foxx recalls how his daughter helped save his life after nearly dying in hospital

Jamie Foxx faced a number of alarming rumours following the news that his health was suffering

Jamie Foxx has revealed the truth behind his mysterious hospitalisation in Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was...., his Netflix stand-up special that was released today (10 December).

56-year-old Foxx is best known for being an award-winning actor/singer, having won an Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 biographical drama Ray and winning a Grammy for his single 'Blame It'.

The talented multi-hyphenate is also the dad to two daughters, Corinne, 30, and Anelise, 16.

Last year, fans were left worried about the star when his daughter Corinne shared on Instagram: "We wanted to share that my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday. Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers."

Following this, it was reported by TMZ that Foxx was a patient in a facility that treats 'stroke recovery, traumatic brain injury rehab, spinal cord injury rehab and cancer rehabilitation,' worsening fears among fans.

With the release of Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was...., Foxx is setting the record straight - and thanking his daughter Anelise for her strength and support.

In the special, he shares that he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke, and it almost killed him.

Foxx recounted: "They said at one point, the first 15 days, they thought they were going to lose me because my vitals were out of control. There was a 13 or 14 day period where they said, we’ve gotta keep him calm and we’ve given him every medication that they could.

"It's not working, we gotta keep him calm because his vitals are so high we’re going to lose him."

He went on to add: "That’s when a miracle happened, and that miracle was working through my youngest daughter. She’s 14. I didn’t want her to see me like that but she snuck into my hospital room with her guitar and she said, ‘I know what my daddy needs … that’s my daddy."

Foxx then began to well up as he spoke about her powerful actions.

He said: "[The hospital staff] said when she was playing, my vitals went down. The nurses at the nurses station were baffled. Like, 'Wow what did they give him?'

"They rushed into the room and she said, ‘Ssh. I got him.’ ... Do you know what I found out? That God was in that guitar. That’s my spiritual defibrillator."

He then welcomed his daughter onstage to perform, telling her: "Play, play, play," before encouraging: "Let them see your talent, shine Anelise, shine baby."

When her performance was finished, Anelise wiped away her own tears and her dad told her: "Anelise, thank you so much for stepping up when all was lost.

"You had to make it because I always dreamed that we’d perform together onstage one day."

The two then performed a song together, with Foxx rapping about wanting to see his eldest daughter, Corinne, get married.

Foxx did, in fact, walk his daughter down the aisle earlier this year, in September, when she tied the knot to Joe Hooten.
