After the new Ryan Murphy show just dropped, telling the tale of Ed Gein in Monster, viewers really want to know if his brother's death scene was true to life.

The new Netflix series stars Sons of Anarchy icon Charlie Hunnam as Gein, convicted murderer and body snatcher, and Suzanna Son as Adeline Watkins, a woman who was once romantically involved with the killer.

The eight-episode series explores the life of the criminal through allusions to fictional cultural works inspired by his crimes, such as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Silence of the Lambs.

Other cast members include Laurie Metcalf as Gein’s mother, Augusta, Tom Hollander as Psycho director Alfred Hitchcock, and Hudson Oz as Henry Gein, the Butcher of Plainfield’s older brother.

Henry, like his sibling, was raised on a Wisconsin farm isolated from others with his religious mum.

In the first episode of Monsters: The Ed Gein Story, a haunting scene takes place, depicting the titular character killing Henry and covering the murder up.

The act takes place after Henry tells Ed about his plans to marry his girlfriend, Ginny, to escape their controlling mother.

In response, Ed hits his brother across the face with a piece of wood, drags his dead body into the woods and stages a bush fire to hide the murder.

Ed then runs to tell his mother he can't find Henry.

In real life, Henry is said to have died under mysterious circumstances. Moreover, there is no proof that Ed killed him.

According to USA Today, Henry died of heart failure while he and Ed were battling a fire on their farmland after they tried to burn away marsh vegetation in 1944.

A&E Crime + Investigation said Ed reported Henry missing before leading authorities straight to his body.

As per police records reported by DMTalkies, officials did note that Henry had a bump on his head, but as they didn't consider foul play, they didn't investigate.

His official cause of death was ruled as asphyxiation, but no autopsy was performed, leading some investigators to suspect that Ed may have been somehow involved in Henry's death.

As for people online, they were quick to fact check this scene, and came to the conclusion that Gein was not confirmed as the killer.

One person on X shared that Gein doesn't qualify to be a serial killer because of Henry's inconclusive death.

They wrote: "But he only really killed, for sure, 2 people, his brother's death was questionable. And it is a minimum of 3 kills to become a serial killer. So if you only killed 2 people, you're not a serial killer."

Another ranted that the show's creator, Murphy, was just adding 's**t' for dramatization purposes, stating: "Ed's brother died in brush fire. Not hit in the head by Ed."

If it was true, the motive may have been clear: it was about their different opinion of their mother.

Sadly, it all seems like his death may have come about because of his attempts to sway his brother from their mother's grasp.

Henry's girlfriend, Ginny, was a single mother, and allegedly not someone that their mum would have approved from, due to the fact she was a religious fanatic who is said to have raised the boys with an iron fist.

That day, rumours say Henry badmouthed their mother, which Gein took offense to and led to him murdering his brother.

But this had a knock on effect, as their mum became distraught after Gein led the search party to the body and his death was confirmed.

She went on to suffer a stroke before dying the following year, where Gein went on to commit his horrifying crimes.
