Ne-Yo has opened up about the inner workings of his polyamorous relationship after he recently went public with his four girlfriends.

Fans were stunned when he shared the news of his lovely ladies, and now he's revealed more information about their unconventional set up.

Taking to Instagram in March, Ne-Yo - real name Shaffer Chimere Smith - introduced his girlfriends as Cristina (Pretty Baby), Arielle (Twin Flame), Moneii (Phoenix Feather) and Bri (Sexy Lil’ Somethin’).

“LADIES AND GENTS I PRESENT MY PYRAMID,” he penned. “Say something nice or move on with your life. We happy over here.”

And during a recent appearance on The Angie Martinez Show, the 45-year-old singer answered the question everyone has been wanting to know: If he has four girlfriends, are the women allowed other lovers?

“The question I get the most is, are they allowed to date outside of me? That’s the question I get all the damn time, and I’m going to answer it right now. No… no they are not,” he said in the radio interview.

Ne-Yo, who has seven children, said that when he first started dating the women, they asked him to be exclusive.

“I did not demand their exclusivity. They offered it. They came to me and said, ‘I want to be exclusive to you and just you,’” he recalled. “I said, ‘You understand that your exclusivity to me does not mean my exclusivity to you. You understand this?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘You’re okay with this?’ ‘Yes.’ Okay cool, since you are offering your exclusivity and I’m taking it, now there’s rules that I need you to follow.”

Despite the 'rules' of their polyamorous relationship, he insists he doesn’t 'do ownership'.

Ne-Yo continued: “I’d be a fool to feel like I’m the only person that anybody will ever be attracted to, anybody will ever want to see; I know that.

“So should the situation ever come up, nothing is above a conversation. However, in that I’m the head of this household, what I say goes. So if I say no, it’s a no. And you just got to let that be a no, or the door is over there.”

The singer claimed he's allowed to date outside of the four ladies as well, but insists he doesn't really want to.

“I’m good. There is no random hookups here and there, everything is talked about, everything is discussed,” he added.

Ne-Yo also revealed that his mother and his seven children have met his girlfriends.

He said that it might not work for everyone, but 'everybody gets along'.

Ne-Yo added: “I couldn’t wish for a better situation, to be honest, we talk about jealousy, we talk about insecurity, we talk about all of these things, but we talk about it together as a unit. That’s the key - radical honesty.”

He said he originally turned to polyamory after divorcing his wife in 2022, and revealed he was 'done' with hurting people and wanted to live an 'honest' life with his multiple girlfriends instead of deceiving people.

“I hurt a lot of people with just being dishonest about things that I could’ve been honest about,” Ne-Yo admitted. “I realise now if I’d have just been honest from the jump, I could’ve saved myself a whole bunch of headache, heartache and everything else.”
