Many people have been buzzing about Cowboy Carter but it seems not everyone is as obsessed with it as Lily Allen has given her thoughts on Beyoncé’s cover of Dolly Parton’s 'Jolene'.

The 27-track album, which dropped last week (28 March), includes a special cover rendition of Parton's smash-hit which was released way back when in 1973.

In the song, however, the 42-year-old star made some major amendments - most notably with the chorus.

Speaking earlier this week to her friend, Miquita Oliver, on the BBC Miss Me? podcast, the 38-year-old British 'Smile' singer opened up about her thoughts on the album - most specifically about Bey covering the country genre classic.

"I don't think the 'Jolene' one's good," Miquita, 39, revealed.

Lily then responded: "It's very weird that you cover the most successful songs in that genre.

Miquita agreed: "But I also feel like Jolene's such an excellent song. Like, I've listened to the story of how Dolly Parton wrote it in about 20 minutes, like, over and over, because I just think it's so genius.

"And I don't know, it just felt a little bit like a kind of standard hip-hop beat under a 'Jolene' cover."

She added: "It's like, 'Let's do something with this song. If we're going to take it apart and put it back together. I feel like Beyoncé could have done a bit more with that."

Lily Allen and Miquita Oliver discussed their thoughts on Bey's 'Jolene' rendition.

"Yeah," Lily chimed in. "I just feel like it's quite an interesting thing to do when you're like trying to tackle a new genre and you just choose the biggest song in that genre to cover."

"I mean, you do you, Beyoncé, and she literally is doing her. Or is she doing Dolly?"

Elsewhere in the podcast episode, the pair chatted about Bey's looks with Miquita praising: "She does look great. She makes me quite excited about [getting into my] 40s."

"She's getting some help, y'know," Lily cut in, reports the Mirror before Miquita responded: "She has not had any work done if that's what you're implying."

"I didn't say that!" Lily assured. "I'm just saying that like she's got a great team of stylists, hair people, y'know she works out a lot, I'm sure she's got access to the best trainers in the world.

"Like y'know, she's Beyoncé."

She is indeed.

Cowboy Carter is available to listen to on major music streaming platforms.
