Insiders share 'real reason' Will and Jada Pinkett Smith kept separation secret for seven years

Jada revealed in a new interview that they've been separated for seven years

Insiders have shared the ‘real reason’ Will Smith and wife Jada kept their separation for secret for seven years.

Will and Jada tied the knot back in 1997, and share two children – Jaden and Willow – with Will also having a son from a previous relationship, 30-year-old Trey.

However, in a new interview with People, Jada revealed that she and Will have actually been secretly separated for years.

"We’re still figuring it out," Jada explained.

"We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us."

A showbiz insider has now revealed what she believes is the real reason that the pair kept their separation a secret from the public for so long, telling The Mirror there are a number of factors.

Louella Alderson, from So Synced, said the famous parents wanted to ‘protect their family from unnecessary media attention and scrutiny’, adding: "Being one of the most famous Hollywood couples, any news about their relationship would have been heavily publicised and could potentially affect their children as well.

"By keeping their separation private, they were able to keep the focus on their family and maintain a sense of normalcy for their children.”

Louella also said it’s possible that Will and Jada ‘needed time apart and thought they might get back together’, explaining how some couples ‘choose to keep their separation a secret in hopes of reconciling and saving their marriage’ - speculating that this is the route they may have taken.

She went on: "By keeping it private, they would have been able to explored their individual needs and wants without the pressure or judgement of outsiders.

“This could have given them the space to work through their issues and potentially come back together stronger.

"Additionally, Jada and Will may have wanted to protect their professional image as a couple.

“They are known for being a power couple in Hollywood, and any news about their separation could have affected future collaborations or endorsements they had, both as individuals and together.

“By keeping their separation hidden, they were able to maintain their public image as a strong and united couple, which could have been important for their careers.”

Louella also said it may have boiled down to something even simpler: that they just wanted some privacy.

"Ultimately, the reasons for keeping their separation under wraps could be a combination of these factors,” she said.

“Every couple's situation is unique and personal. But essentially, the decision to keep their separation private has allowed Jada and Will to handle their relationship in a way that works best for them without outside interference."
