Jada Pinkett says she has not broken up with husband Will Smith

She's spoken out about the bombshell news in a new interview

Jada Pinkett Smith says she’s not actually broken up with husband Will, following the bombshell news that they’d separated.

Jada - who married Will back in 1997 and went on to have two kids together, Jaden and Willow - revealed in a recent interview with People that they had actually been secretly separated for years.

"We’re still figuring it out," Jada told People in an interview ahead of the release of her new memoir, Worthy, which is out on 17 October.

"We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us," she added.

The book promises to ‘spare no details’ on Jada’s life as she shares an ‘intimate conversation with readers’, answering questions about ‘her difficult childhood, her marriage, her parenting style, her career choices, and the intense scrutiny that followed "the slap"’.

Jada has now opened up further about what their situation actually means, suggesting that - despite what many people have assumed - they’ve not actually broken up.

Speaking to the Today show yesterday (16 October), she explained: "There's no finding another great love, and I think that's the point.

"It's like we are in a place now that we are in a deep, healing space. And we are really concentrating on healing the relationship between us.

"There's no divorce on paper. We really have been working hard. That's the whole thing. We are working very hard at bringing our relationship together. Back to a life partnership."

Jada continued: "Here's the thing about husband-wife marriage for me, for my healing process.

"I came into that with very specific ideas that were blocks to me seeing Will as who he is.

“He can't be this perfect, ideal guy husband. I have to be able to accept him for the human that he is, (and) he accepts me for the human that I am. And we want to love each other there."

Host Hoda Kotb replied: “Oh! Okay. Well, I didn’t know that.”

Jada went on: “That's the point I was trying to tell yoy. You totally missed that. That's the whole thing.”

When Hoda asked if ‘there might not be a divorce in theory anymore’, Jada responded: “Yeah. No. We really have been working hard.”
