Usher responds to ‘body double’ conspiracy as fans question unusual detail

Usher has spoken out after rumours of a 'body double' started to swirl.

The singer had faced accusations that a 'clone' was used at one of his performances, instead of the real deal.

Fans had been sharing clips of a performance at the MetLife Stadium show in New Jersey, from the Raymond & Brown tour.

Eagle-eyed viewers insisted something was a miss, and they didn't think it was the real Usher performing up there.

While he's been busy on the road with Chris Brown, Usher, 47, has now responded after the rumours showed no sign of slowing down.

The post featured a video of him performing onstage, overlaid with comments of him calling out the clone claims.

Which, when you think about it, must be a very surreal thing to have to defend yourself for.

He wrote: “Ya’ll are funny…clone? They can’t clone this??”

The star continued: “How ya’ll come up with this? AI ain’t that advanced.”

There were plenty of crying-laughing emojis, too, just to show that he finds the whole thing hilarious, really.

Fans had been claiming there was something of the uncanny valley about the 'Usher' onstage.

“Usher you can’t fool New York that’s not you bro i want my money back,” wrote one commenter.

“Usher, why’d you have to play us all like that last night??” added another, before continuing: "That was foulllll, Usher really sent out his doppelganger.”

One critic shared a TikTok video examining the concert footage, explaining: “I have to say that these people do not look the same in my opinion, at all, and it’s not just one fan, it is multiple fans saying, ‘Wait, is this really Usher?’

However, one fan had a theory: "Usher was there but HE ALSO had a stunt double (fill in) for a minute as well. Case closed. We still love you Usher."

"I think people are expecting 20 year old Usher to still be performing the same today. He put on a hell of a show even with his age! Still in awesome shape. People always gonna find something to complain about," mused another.

Earlier in the tour, he made headlines for putting a stop to a steamy performance with a fan who had been pulled from the crowd, after he noticed she didn't look particularly into it, reports PEOPLE.

“I don’t think she wanna be on the stage,” he said at the time.

Days later at another concert, before performing that part of the show, he warned: “Before we get started, don’t bring your ass up here if you don’t wanna be here.”

Usher isn't the only one to face accusations of being a clone.

Over the years, fans have had wild theories that Avril Lavigne has been replaced by a clone, as well as First Lady Melania Trump, while Britney Spears' son Jaden spoke out recently to insist his mum hasn't been swapped for a double.

Jim Carrey was also forced to defend himself after fans accused him of looking 'unrecognisable' in footage earlier this year, and also claimed he had been cloned.

Could it just be aging and people refusing to believe we look different as we get older?
