Tom Cruise's unexpected compliment to Prince William revealed
Tom Cruise was full of praise for Prince William and Kate Middleton when he was joined by the royal couple at the dazzling premiere of his new movie, Digger, last night,
The Hollywood star, 64, is starring in the satirical dark comedy as an eccentric billionaire oil tycoon, Digger Rockwell, who has to race to save the world after his reckless drilling triggers a massive global environmental crisis.
A host of celebrities were at the film’s black-carpet premiere on Tuesday (22 September), including David Beckham and the Prince and Princess of Wales.
For context, the premiere was the 73rd Royal Film Performance, which is a long-running tradition where members of the Royal Family attend a major film screening to support the British film industry and raise money for the Film and TV Charity.

We all know Kate and Will are proud environmental advocates and philanthropists, so this movie was the perfect one for them to support.
It’s been four years since they last attended a movie premiere, back in May 2022 as they walked the red carpet for Top Gun: Maverick.
Reunited with their longtime pal Cruise this week for another of his films, the actor reportedly complimented the Prince of Wales’ fashion sense.
Hello! Magazine reports that he said, “Great jacket,” as he greeted the royal duo in front of the cameras.
Ahead of Kate and William’s arrival in Leicester Square, the star told reporters: "I just love them. They are lovely people, and I have great respect for them."
Cruise also shared his thanks inside the cinema when the Digger cast took to the stage to introduce the movie.
He said: "We want to thank the Royal Highnesses for supporting this event, and just to tell them that we love them and we really appreciate what they do for the arts, for this country and for the world.”
As for the outfit that bagged him a compliment, William was wearing a dapper black velvet tuxedo, while Kate looked glamorous in a purple floor-sweeping Jenny Packham dress accessorised with some very special jewellery.
She wore Diana, Princess of Wales’s earrings and the Queen Mother’s amethyst sautoir necklace for the event.
Meanwhile, Cruise wore a traditional black tuxedo with a cummerbund and bow tie, with patent leather cowboy boots that were a surprising nod to his Digger character.
William and Kate posed for photos with two of David Beckham’s sons, Cruz and Romeo, whom he brought along to the soiree.
One fan penned on Instagram: “Gorgeous couple per usual! Love that purple and that necklace!” while a second added: “Gorgeous couple! You stole the show! Catherine looked breathtaking in purple, and William so handsome in black tie. Truly regal!”
A third wrote: “You two looked absolutely stunning and so elegant as always.”
While a fourth and fifth chimed in with: “So classy and elegant” and “Wow, beautiful Catherine.”
It comes at a tumultuous time for the Royal Family, after the late Princess Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, has just released an explosive memoir.
Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, was published on the same day (22 September).
It explores the final years of Diana’s life, including the events surrounding her death and the aftermath of her funeral.
