Timothée Chalamet refuses one request during ‘awkward’ interview with Julianne Hough at Oscars

Timothée Chalamet has been praised after he refused to grant an interviewer's request at the Oscars this week.

On Sunday (2 March), some of Hollywood's greatest stars gathered at the Dolby Theatre where the 97th Academy Awards celebrated the last 12 months in film.

The awards show was filled with all kinds of wild and dramatic moments, including Conan O'Brien's opening skit, Kieran Culkin's acceptance speech and Morgan Freeman's heartbreaking Gene Hackman tribute.

The big winner of the evening was Anora, which scooped five Oscars - Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Director and Best Actress in a Leading Role for star Mikey Madison.

Other big winners included The Brutalist with three awards, and Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez and Wicked with two awards each.

Among those who attended the prestigious event was Timothée Chalamet - who was nominated for the Best Actor in a Leading Role award for his role as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown - and his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner.

One rather awkward moment occurred when Chalamet was asked quite a specific question by Julianne Hough on the red carpet.

The Dancing with the Stars co-host asked Chalamet if he would re-create his SNL rapping skit with Pete Davidson, but in a Bob Dylan voice.

“I was hoping that maybe you could do the ‘skrt, skeet’ in like, Bob Dylan,” said Hough.

“You know what? I’m gonna need a check," Chalamet responded.

“OK, OK. Got it,” said Hough.

People praised Chalamet for refusing the request, with many fans taking to X to discuss the awkward moment.

One person wrote: “'Dance for me, monkey' is a tactic that 9 times out of 10 will not go over the way the interviewer thinks it might."

And another added: "Love that he said that. He’s given so much during the awards campaign and shows. Enough with asking him to perform on cue."

While a third joked: "I know the work of Kris Jenner when I see it."

Chalamet and Kylie Jenner - who have been dating since the beginning of 2023, notably sat apart while Chalamet's category was announced - but it was for a very sweet reason.

While they sat next to each other for the majority of the night, during a commercial break just before the Best Lead Actor was announced, Kylie switched to a seat behind her beau with another woman taking her place beside him.

Eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed that the woman sat next to Chalamet was his mum, who he gave special mention to at this year's SAG Awards last month.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, he said: "I’ll start by thanking my mother who I’m here with tonight. She has been working at Actors' Equity for 40 years, in the stage union."

Tyla has contacted Julianne Hough's representatives for a comment.
