Taylor Swift fans accused of ‘ruining Friends’ after song lyric ‘connections’ to show are revealed

A fierce debate has been sparked between the two fandoms

Taylor Swift fans have been accused of 'ruining Friends' after song lyric 'connections' to show have been revealed.

The fandoms of the beloved throwback sitcom and the 34-year-old 'Cruel Summer' singer are arguably some of the biggest ones out there.

So, it seems only natural that there would be quite a lot of debate online when the two seemingly had a cross-over.

One of the many Friends fan accounts on Instagram shared a compilation video of a bunch of 'references from Friends in Taylor Swift lyrics'.

'Guys like you never go out of style'

Up first is a clip of Chandler reading Rachel's note to her love interest at the time to the gang at Central Perk: "Joshua, give me a call sometime.

"Guys like you never go out of style."

It then cuts to the lyrics of Taylor's 'Style' track which read: "'Cause we never go out of style / We never go out of style."

'Mr Right Place at the Right Time'

The second clip sees Janice telling Ross: "Okay, you, Mr Right Place at the Right Time," before cutting to Taylor's 'Mr Perfectly Fine' which uses a similar phrase.

The lyrics go: "Mr 'Always at the Right Place at the Right Time', baby."

'When I was 15, my daddy bought me my own boat!'

The third sees Rachel telling Joey: "You know, Joey, I could teach you to sail if you want."

"You could?" asks Joey before Rachel replies: "Yeah! I've been sailing my whole life!

"When I was 15, my daddy bought me my own boat!"

Swifties were quick to notice this line was very similar to Taylor's 'no body, no crime' song.

She sings: "Good thing my daddy made me get a boating license when I was fifteen."

'Betty'

In the same scene, Pheebs sings: "There was a girl we'll call her Betty and a guy let's call him Neil."

Now, this is a bit of a reach, but Taylor's 'betty song' goes: "Betty, I won't make assumptions about why you switched your homeroom."

'A song about a love triangle between three people that I made up'

And the final clip sees Phoebe playing a gig at the coffee house telling the audience: "This is a song about a love triangle between three people that I made up," during that whole Ross-Julie-Rachel saga.

It then cut to an interview between Taylor and Jimmy Fallon where she tells him: "There's a lot going on.

"There's, like, a fictional love triangle between three fictional teenagers in the Folklore album."

So, what do the fans think?

Many absolutely loved the references with one Instagram user writing: "Who did this? We must protect them at all costs!!!! Thank you for synching two of my most favorite things in this whole wide world!!!!!"

A second chimed in: "That right there is why I love pop culture and I feel very sorry for people who don‘t get the references!"

"Damn I love this! Such an iconic show and singer!" gushed a third while a fourth praised: "

Another added: "Omg! I just love her more now! How can anyone not love her?"

And a final fan echoed: "I love her because this."

Others, however, clearly weren't as chuffed with the Swiftie X Friends cross-over with one hitting out: "Oh noooo......don't ruin the show."

A second begged: "Please don't ruin Friends."

"Please DO NOT ruin this show for millions of us!!!" chirped a final Instagram user.

What do you make of it?
