Taylor Swift’s new album cover sparks controversy as some critics call her out

The 'Bad Blood' singer has finally revealed the cover art for her upcoming The Life of a Showgirl album

Swifties have been sent into an absolute spiral this week on account of all the latest Taylor Swift updates.

The 35-year-old 'Cruel Summer' singer has 'broken the internet' after it was revealed by her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, that she would be appearing on his New Heights podcast in today's episode (14 August).

She's also sparked a number of fan theories when it comes to her upcoming album - the cover of which she debuted for the very first time in today's podcast.

And, while many Taylor fans are absolutely obsessed with the long-anticipated reveal, a bunch of critics have since rushed to social media to call her out for it.

Now, the Grammy award-winning artist's upcoming 12th studio album is titled The Life of a Showgirl, and it has the cover art to match the whole 'showgirl' theme.

The album follows the mint and orange colour theme with the title appearing in an orange, glittery text framing. Taylor can be seen partially submerged in water donning a diamonté brassiere with embellished detailing going down her torso.

The Life of a Showgirl will tell the story of 'everything that was going on behind the curtain' during her Eras tour, Taylor explained to fans.

The album features a total of 12 tracks: 'The Fate of Ophelia', 'Elizabeth Taylor', 'Opalite', 'Father Figure', 'Eldest Daughter', 'Ruin the Friendship', 'Actually Romantic', 'Wi$h Li$t', 'Wood', 'Cancelled!', 'Honey' and the titular 'The Life of a Showgirl', featuring Sabrina Carpenter.

Explaining why she posed in a bathtub for the shoot, the 'Bad Blood' hit-maker shared: "My day ends with me in a bathtub, not usually in a bedazzled dress.

"I wanted to glamorise all the different aspects of how that tour felt."

Despite the avalanche of praise and hype online, a few internet users pointed out their qualms with the cover art.

One critic penned: "I thought this was a crime scene photo."

"Somebody please explain this idea of photography," questioned a second, while a third piped up: "Looks like a poster for Showtime's attempt at adult TV."

A fourth slammed: "Put some freaking clothes on!"

"Does singing have to include nudity?" chirped another. "Asking for a friend."

And a final critic bizarrely declared: "What happens in her bedroom is no longer a secret."

Like it or lump it, the album is quite literally called 'The Life of a Showgirl' so it shouldn't be that much of a surprise that Taylor is, in fact, dressed up in typical showgirl attire?

The Life of a Showgirl will be released on 3 October.
