Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco plan to scrap huge wedding tradition for very relatable reason

The soon-to-be newlyweds discussed their wedding day plans on the Table Manners podcast

Ever since Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco announced their engagement, it's clear that fans all over have been waiting with anticipating for the pair to finally confirm the date of their upcoming big day.

Selena and Benny first went public with their romance in December 2023, only a year before the music producer eventually proposed in December 2024.

Now, while we may not know all the ins and outs about the occasion, the loved-up couple have confirmed their plans to do away with a pretty major wedding tradition for a heartwarmingly relatable reason.

Selena, 32, and Benny, 37, sat down on a recent episode of the Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware podcast, where they discussed the reason behind the choice.

Speaking about the prospect of having a first dance at their reception after tying the knot, Selena explained: "I don’t think we’re looking at having one of those 'cause they’re a little... I feel embarrassed.

Benny then chimed in: "She’s shy."

However, the 'How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten' singer did share that she would be having a 'special dance' with her grandfather on her mother’s side and opened up about the touching significance behind the decision.

"He never got a chance to walk my mum down the aisle. Because, good for my mum, she decided to go to [Las] Vegas and be like, 'Whoo,' and she’s still been with [my father] ever since they were like 26," she said.

"So it’s very cute that they did that, but I wanted to give [my grandfather] the opportunity to have that."

On the day, Selena will also be participating in a Jewish wedding tradition - given her fiancé’s Jewish heritage - known as the Hora or the 'chair dance'.

"I’m very nervous about that," she admitted, before adding: "I’ve got to be honest, it looks so cute and adorable but I was like, 'What? I have to depend on just something like [a chair]?'"

The couple, who have recently released new music together for their album 'I Said I Love You First' also appeared on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, where they offered fans a little more insight into the ins and outs of their love life.

Discussing their approach to arguing and conflict resolution, Selena candidly admitted: "I’ve been guilty though to start. I think for me, I necessarily felt like in other situations of mine I was very reactive.

"I think that’s why I was alone for five years because I really needed to collect myself."

She also explained that it's taken her time to emotionally mature, adding that she wasn't sure she would have been in a place to be with Benny 'in the past'.

"I think in the past, that’s why I said to him all the time 10 years ago it’s not that I wouldn't have wanted to be with you, I just wouldn’t have been in the right headspace, and I don’t think you deserved what I had gone through before," Gomez shared. "I’ve learned a lot of lessons and I’ve made mistakes and I just want this to be right. So for me, that was a lesson that I had to learn."
