Selena Gomez shares an emotional parenting wish

Selena Gomez has opened up about her hopes for starting a family in the future.

The Rare Beauty founder and actress, 34, shared an adorable photo with a newborn baby on Instagram with a sweet caption.

The Only Murders in the Building star wrote: “One day..” alongside the smiling while holding back tears emoji and a cloud emoji.

Selena has previously been candid about her wish to become a mum and start a family with her husband, music producer Benny Blanco, 38.

Last year, the Disney Channel alum shared a post celebrating her role on the Wizards of Waverly Place spin-off series, Wizard Beyond Waverly Place which marked her return as the Russo family wizard.

“Alex Russo is a mommy,” Selena wrote. “Hopefully one day that’ll be me.”

The singer has also spoken in depth about having children, explaining how her health and medication will impact how she’s able to have them.

She spoke to Vanity Fair in 2024 about being unable to carry her own children, explaining that this was something she ‘had to grieve’.

“I haven’t ever said this...but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children,” she shared. “I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while…”

In March 2025, both Selena and Benny sat down with Jay Shetty for an interview on his podcast about their relationship and other topics.

“I don’t know what will happen, obviously, but I love children,” she said. “I love making [children] laugh; they’re just so sweet. So absolutely, when that day comes, I’m so excited for it.”

Benny explained that Selena is a natural with children and when she sees them, she will have ‘conversations for hours’ with them.

He said: “When you started doing this you were a kid and that was your way to connect to people and I feel like you still feel like you have that obligation to connect with young kids,” he pointed out. “You shaped so many young people’s lives, whether it was Barney, Wizards [of Waverly Place]... you’re still finding your way to do that.”

She shared that while carrying her own children was not possible, she hopes to have them through other methods.

Speaking to Time magazine in 2024, she explained: “Before I met my boyfriend, I was single for five years, with the exception of going on a few dates,” she said. “And I was like, ‘Okay, if this is the vibe, then what is the most important thing to me? Family.’"

“I was alone for five years, and I got really used to it,” she told the outlet. “A lot of people are afraid of being alone and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it. Then I came up with my plan, which was I was going to adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone.”

After years of friendship and musical collaborations, the pair's relationship blossomed into something more, with Gomez confirming their romance in December 2023.

The couple announced their engagement in December 2024 and their wedding followed in September last year.
