Following her devastating loss at this year's Academy Awards, Demi Moore has released a statement.

Millions of eyes were on The Substance star on Sunday night (2 Mar), as she went head-to-head with a handful of fellow Best Actress nominees - including Cynthia Eviro for Wicked, Fernanda Torres for I'm Still Here, and Karla Sofía Gascón for Emilia Pérez.

The nomination marked an Oscars first for 62-year-old Moore, after she starred as aging fitness instructor 'Elisabeth Sparkle' in the gory-horror opposite Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid last year.

It ended up being Mikey Madison's night, however, and following the 25-year-old's performance in romantic-drama Anora, she was awarded the grand prize.

The camera subsequently panned to mother-of-three Moore, who gracefully applauded Madison following her defeat.

A lip reading expert later dissected the footage, however, and believes the actress uttered one word that showed her true feelings about losing out to an accolade on the biggest evening for film.

"Demi says 'nice' but she isn't smiling when she says it," Nicola Hickling told the MailOnline yesterday (3 Mar).

"Her body is almost nodding like she had to force herself to say it."

Apparently, however, Moore has shut down speculation that she harbours any resentment over her loss this weekend.

The Ghost actress has since released an official statement, breaking her silence on the matter and congratulating rising star Madison for her colossal victory.

Taking to Instagram last night to share a clip of herself getting ready for the festivities, Moore shared a sweet tribute to her fellow star whilst calling this year's awards season the 'ride of a lifetime'.

"A huge congratulations to Mikey Madison - can't wait to see what you do next," she gushed.

Thankfully, Moore hasn't been left totally empty-handed following her appearance in The Substance.

After going up against Madison, Evivo and Gascón at January's Golden Globes - as well as Nightbitch's Amy Adams and Challengers front-woman Zendaya - she returned home with a hefty accolade following an emotional speech about ageing in Hollywood.

After being announced as the award winner, Moore claimed she was 'in shock', revealing that the victory also marked the first win in her career.

"Thirty years ago, I had a producer tell me that I was a popcorn actress and at that tine, I made that mean that [awards] weren't something I was allowed to have," she explained.

"That I could do movies that were successful, that made a lot of money, but that I couldn't be acknowledged.

Moore went on: "I bought in, and I believed that, and that corroded me over time, to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it, maybe I was complete. I've done what I was supposed to do.

"And as I was at this kind of low point, I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box script come across my desk called The Substance, and the universe told me that you're not done."
