Fans are gutted after watching Demi Moore’s heartbreaking one-word response after losing the Best Actress award at the Oscars on Sunday night.

The hit MUBI body horror, The Substance, starring Moore and Margaret Qualley, was up for five awards at last night's 97th Academy Awards (2 March) including; Best Make-up and Hairstyling, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, Best Picture and Best Actress.

Unfortunately for the 62-year-old Hollywood A-lister, however, it was 25-year-old Mikey Madison who took home the Best Actress accolade with the comedy-romance, Anora.

Joining Moore and Madison, nominees included; Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez) and Fernanda Torres (I'm Still Here).

Lip reader Nicola Hickling has since shared her expertise on how Moore was allegedly really feeling after the winner announcement.

She told the MailOnline: "Demi says 'nice' but she isn't smiling when she says it. Her body is almost nodding like she had to force herself to say it."

While disappointed, it's clear Moore was able to put her feelings aside as she could be seen applauding for Madison as she made her way onto the stage to collect the gong.

In her acceptance speech, Madison, who plays an escort in Anora, took the opportunity to recognise the sex worker community.

"I also just want to, again, recognise and honour the sex worker community," she said. "I will. Yes. I will continue to support and be an ally.

"All of the incredible people, the women that I've had the privilege of meeting from that community has been one of the highlights of this incredible experience."

Madison rounded off her speech with a touching tribute to her fellow nominees: "'I also just want to recognise the thoughtful, intelligent, beautiful, breathtaking work of my fellow nominees. I'm honoured to be recognised alongside all of you.

"This is a dream come true, I'm probably going to wake up tomorrow. Thank you so much, Sean [Baker], I adore you. This is all because of you. Thank you."

Fans have since rushed to social media to voice their frustrations over Moore's Oscars loss, with one X user hitting out: "DEMI MOORE YOU WERE ROBBED YOU ARE THE PEOPLE'S TRUE WINNER WE LOVE YOU AND THE SUBSTANCE FOREVER!"

"Sorry I can’t talk I’m devastated Demi Moore didn’t win best actress at the Oscars," gushed a second, while a third added: "Demi Moore SNUBBED F*CK THE OSCARS!"

And a final X user added: "Demi Moore deserved so much more recognition and deep down, everyone knows it. She delivered the performance of a lifetime in THE SUBSTANCE and I would’ve loved to see her win tonight. Forever MY winner, I love her so much."
