Miley Cyrus reveals why it was a ‘blessing’ home she shared with ex Liam Hemsworth burnt down

The former married couple tragically saw their Malibu house burn down in 2018

Miley Cyrus has opened up about a silver lining when the house she once shared with ex-husband Liam Hemsworth burnt down.

The 32-year-old 'Flowers' singer, who was married to the Hunger Games actor, 35, between 2018 to 2020, sadly lost her home as a result of the 2018 Woolsey Fire, which ravaged several properties across California.

The Hannah Montana star had been in South Africa filming Black Mirror at the time and wrote on social media: "Completely devastated by the fires affecting my community."

She added: "I am one of the lucky ones. My animals and LOVE OF MY LIFE made it out safely and that’s all that matters right now. My house no longer stands but the memories shared with family and friends stand strong."

Since then, Miley has been able to look back at the situation and has opened up about why losing their cherished belongings was actually a 'blessing'.

Following a preview screening of her upcoming visual album Something Beautiful in New York City on Tuesday (6 May), the Grammy winner explained, as per PEOPLE: "When my house burned down, that was the biggest blessing I've ever had in my life, actually."

Miley, who married Liam a month after the fire in December 2018 and later separated with him in August 2019, continued: "Losing everything and being able to rebuild, and to be able to be purposeful and choose every piece that I'm gonna collect or also just about the people in my life.

"And I guess for me, when my house burned down, a lot of my relationships also burned down, and that again just led me to such magic and to have so much gratitude."

She added that she would tell her younger self 'to appreciate those darker times' as 'they are only leading you into the light'.

Miley went on to gush over her exciting for her 'younger self to really experience' the upcoming album, which is due to be released at the end of this month (30 May).

"This album has to start with me loving it, and then the love that I have for it, whether you know it or not, it's gonna be coming through the speakers when you're listening," she shared with fans at the screening.

Talking about the appreciation she has for her fans, Miley continued: "People say we grew up together, and we really did. And it's definitely what makes, I think, this film so magical and so potent is that all of us have kind of created it together, and it's cool to be in a room full of people I've never met, you know, or strangers, and, you know, you're not that strange.

"We're all a little strange, but that's what I think has made all of us really, kind of hold on to the relationship that we have."
