Lady Gaga has responded to pregnancy rumours following online speculation.

The 38-year-old hitmaker, real name Stefani Germanotta, found herself in the centre of a social media rumour mill after photographs of her at her sister Natali Germanotta's wedding surfaced.

Gaga first shot to fame upon the release of her 2008 album The Fame. She is now thought to have sold 170 million records and is of huge critical acclaim.

Gaga is the recipient of 13 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and a BAFTA, among her many accolades.

She then went on to star in the 2018 musical drama A Star is Born alongside Bradley Cooper, and is set to hit the silver screen once again with Joaquin Phoenix in the forthcoming psychological thriller Joker: Folie à Deux.

Yet it seems not even the most illustrious careers can protect women from pregnancy rumours before they have made any statement beforehand.

In true Gaga fashion, she responded in the most iconic way.

Taking to TikTok, looking beautiful with bleached brows and bold graphic eyeliner, she posted a short video with the text: "Not pregnant -- just down bad in the gym.

The star was also lip syncing during the video to an audio clip that said: "I don't have to find an aesthetic; I am the aesthetic. I mean, I'm sure there's somebody out here right now who is going into Pinterest trying to type up all these adjectives to describe me."

Gaga then took to X to share the same sentiment ahead of the US Presidential election on 5 November, 2024.

She wrote: "Not pregnant…

"REGISTER TO VOTE or check if you’ve already registered EASILY at http://headcount.org."

It's an applause-worthy moment for sure, but many see it as disheartening that people still have to deal with pregnancy rumours.

Surely, in this day and age, we should hear from pregnant people directly rather than subject them to speculation, which may have a negative effect on body image.

One person wrote on X: "It breaks my heart you even have to say that. You’re beautiful as you are."

Another said: "The fact that you have to clarify that rumor yet again is simply out of this world…"

While a third joked about her eagerly-anticipated next album: "Well you are pregnant with LG7. Heard it’s comin soon."

And someone else commented: "Are y’all going to learn to stop speculating on women’s bodies now and just leave people be."
