The Voice’s Kelly Clarkson has fired off another salvo in the extraordinary war of words with a Brooklyn store over a reported $15K wind-up bird sculpture.
Multi-platinum Clarkson took to the social media platform X to contradict Art of Play’s account of her interaction with their staff – which alleged she inquired about buying an artistic toy bird called ‘Molly’ that they say was not for sale.
In Clarkson’s version of events documented in her initial post – which seems to have started the online saga – she criticised store clerks for suggesting she buy something ‘comparable for me’.
She said this claimed snub stemmed from her being dressed casually and being judged by staff as in the iconic Pretty Woman scene when Julia Roberts’ character is similarly shunned by snooty staff.

Clarkson raised the stakes by doubling down on her first post, doubling down in the dispute over a wooden singing bird.
Tyla reached out to both Kelly Clarkson, via her representatives and Art of Play via its website for comment.
Clarkson hit back at the store’s account, sarcastically setting out what she said it claimed happened, and concluding: “That all never happened and now it’s not for sale. Okay, cool. So you’re not only rude, you’re also a liar. Got it.”
She then went on to clarify that she continued to support small businesses but she stressed, “you don’t get a free pass to treat people less than in your store just because you are a small business.”
She signed off by saying, “Your store is really cool. Unfortunately, you aren’t.”

Clarkson’s original post on X said, “Wow, dude. You’re an idiot and just lost a huge sale. If you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman. For sure, check it out 👎.”
The version of events the store disputed centred on whether the wood sculpture Molly was ever for sale, insisting “Yesterday, Kelly Clarkson visited us in Brooklyn and inquired about buying ‘Molly,’ a one-of-a-kind singing and dancing bird automaton who plays an important role in the magic shows we host here.”
Molly ‘isn’t for sale’ the store claimed and expressed dismay at “suddenly being attacked by 8 million people who have never visited our store.”
The store continued, “It’s been a surreal experience to be the focus of such widespread outrage after just one mention by a celebrity.”
Then they concluded with a dig: “As a talented popular singer once said ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’” – referencing Clarkson’s own 2011 hit.
