Katie Price hits back at calls to put her in prison following driving convictions

Katie Price hits back at calls to put her in prison following driving convictions

"Just leave me alone," she said

One thing Katie Price is no stranger to is hitting the headlines.

It seems that the 45-year-old and iconic ex-glamour model, has hit some more financial difficulty – and many members of the general public seem to know exactly what should happen next.

Price has been declared bankrupt for the second time, after telling courts she is unable to pay her £760,000 tax bill.

And last week, Price was fined £880 for driving without a licence.

Further, she received eight penalty points, bringing her total to 11. She was instructed to fork out an additional £972 in costs.

Since then, tongues have been wagging.

Tory MP James Wild has insisted she should be jailed after a series of driving convictions.

He declared: “The public would rightly expect repeat driving offenders to get maximum sentences for reckless behaviour.

“The £880 penalty in this case fails to recognise how serious driving offences are.

“Ultimately we need to look at custodial sentences for serial offenders.”

Currently, under UK law, driving without insurance and without a licence can end with the driver accruing fines, penalty points and a potential ban from driving – but neither offence is punishable by imprisonment.

Price, ever outspoken, took to the Daily Mail's Straight to the Comments! podcast to give her own opinion.

She began: “There’s an MP who wants me off the road. I’m not even driving at the minute.

“I don’t go on about it here but there’s so much discrimination around that as well. Every day people go into bankruptcies. I do pay it off, and I am paying it off.”

Katie said, 'every day people go in bankruptcy'.

Without mincing her words, she posed the question: I don’t need to hear some a**hole MP is trying to get me in prison. That’s good for taxpayers, innit? What would they gain with me in prison?

“It would cost them more money to put me in prison than out. I have asked to go to prison but they won’t do it, so what do they want to do?” she continued.

Going into further detail about her bankruptcy after the news broke, she added: “What doesn’t help, what I’m sick to death of reading is, ‘Yes Katie Price is in bankruptcy’. Every day people go in bankruptcy.

“We all know I’m in a bankruptcy. I don’t need to read it and hear it and it be smeared in my face. It’s not nice, it’s mentally damaging.”

She concluded: “Just leave me alone. I’m trying to get on with my life. And it just brings up a bad period of my breakdown for why I got in that situation.

“If I don’t go to work, no one else will. So, we keep going to The Priory a lot… to keep my head sane to concentrate on stuff.”

We wish her all the best.
