JoJo Siwa has broken her silence after Miley Cyrus made a ‘closet’ joke about her in a pre-recorded video played at WorldPride 2025 in Washington over the weekend.
For those who aren’t up to speed, a clip of the Hannah Montana star making the jibe has been doing the rounds on social media.
In the video that played to the crowds on the big screen, Miley stood inside a closet and said: “Enjoy coming out of the closet if this Pride is the time for you.”

She went on to tell attendees to ‘have an amazing Pride,’ before signing off with a ‘closet’ joke about JoJo, following the Dance Moms star’s new relationship with Chris Hughes.
“Alright I’m going back to get some more pretzels and find JoJo Siwa and bring her back out,” the singer joked.
However, the line has gone down badly with fans, who called out the comment as ‘bi-erasure,’ as we all know you can still be part of the LGBTQ+ community if you’re with a man.

Fans on social media wrote: “Hello, bisexuality is a thing!” and “Can y'all just let bi people exist”.
And today (12 June), JoJo herself has taken to Instagram to publicly issue a response to the joke, which she savagely said was ‘not a very good one’ and ‘not what the world needs to hear’.
She shared a carousel of images of herself as a child, all decked out in her Miley Cyrus and Hannah Montana merch, as well as a picture with Miley herself.
In the caption, JoJo wrote: “I was happy at my 5th birthday having a Miley themed party, and I’m still happy now at 22… If you know me, you know that Miley is my day 1. I grew up beyond inspired by her from 2 years old on…”

Addressing the elephant in the room, she admitted she ‘wasn’t sure how she felt about things for a couple of days’ but has ‘started to come to some thoughts’.
JoJo admitted: “I don’t believe what Miley said at world pride was ill intended, honestly I think it was meant to be a joke, but just not a very good one haha."
The Celebrity Big Brother star added: “Not what the world, or myself needs to hear any day of the week.”

She also revealed that she messaged Miley ‘lightheartedly’ about the situation, to which the singer replied with: ‘All love. Always,’ alongside some heart emojis.
JoJo then went on to write: “Honestly the most beautiful thing I’ve learned in the last 5 years is that love is a gorgeous rainbow.
“Don’t question yourself, don’t second guess yourself, just love. Love love love love love.
“People judge no matter what, and it can be very hard, especially when it comes from someone you love, and look up to… but if you feel happy and content with yourself, that’s most important.”

She signed off with: “ You get one life… hold onto it, make it yours, find your happy, and love.” Here, here JoJo.
Fans rushed to the comments to show their support for the star, with one follower writing: “It was not in the slightest bit funny. You’re a beautiful person JoJo. Keep shining with your Christopher.”
Another quipped: “What Miley said wasn't funny & if a joke a very poor one!! The way you have handled what was said shows you're a much classier, caring person than others could ever wish to be.”
With a third chiming in with: “Love is love as long as you are happy in life that’s all that matters, f*** what everyone else thinks. We are all rooting for you and Chris.”
It comes after JoJo and former Love Islander Chris confirmed their relationship after keeping fans on the edge of their seats with their ‘will-they-won’t-they’ dynamic for weeks.
The pair met on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year - at which point JoJo was in a relationship with now-ex Kath Ebbs - growing close inside the house before continuing to spend time together.
She told Capital Buzz: "I'm sure it's no secret to people, I am in a lovely relationship with a sweet boy named Christopher Hughes.”
In another interview, this time with The Guardian, she also confirmed that things were no longer 'platonic' between the pair.
"People can see our chemistry, and they got to see it develop," she told the outlet. "I think everyone's just curious, and I can't blame them."
