The actress revealed she wasn't too keen on tying the knot with Will Smith when they got married in 1997.

Jada Pinkett Smith walked down the aisle in tears when she married Will Smith because she didn’t want to get married.

All eyes are on Jada and Will’s marriage once again after the Nutty Professor actor, 52, admitted that she and Will have actually been separated for seven years.

In a new interview with People, Jada opened up about the state of her marriage, revealing that they had been separated for six years before the infamous 2022 Oscars slap, where The Fresh Prince of Bel Air star slapped Chris Rock after he made a joke about Jada’s appearance.

She told the publication: “We’re still figuring it out. We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together.

"We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”

The couple tied the knot back in 1997, and share two children; Willow and Jaden plus Trey, Will’s son from a previous relationship.

Jada has opened up about her thoughts on marriage in the past, admitting on an episode of her show Red Table Talk in 2018 that she actually wasn’t too keen on the idea of getting married to Will in the first place.

"I really didn’t want to get married...I didn’t want a wedding either," she said.

"I was under so much pressure. Being a young actress, being young and pregnant. I didn’t know what to do, but I knew I never wanted to be married."

She added: "I was so upset that I had to have a wedding. I was so pissed," she said. "I went crying down the freaking aisle. I cried the whole way.”

The couple welcomed their first child together, Jaden, in 1998.

Jada elaborated on her feelings, adding: “I didn’t want to get married and now Gammy’s [her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris] gone running to Will, crying about how I don’t want to have a wedding.

"Now I’m being forced to have a wedding, when really I just wanted it to be the two of us [her and Smith] on a mountain, because this is serious business."

The Smiths have kept us updated with their unconventional marriage over the years, including the time when Jada admitted in August 2020 to having an affair with 29-year-old singer August Alsina, something she described as an ‘entanglement’.

The pair also revealed they have an open marriage.
