Hugh Jackman’s ex-wife Deborra revealed why sleeping with him was like ‘always having affairs’

Hugh Jackman was with his ex-wife Deborra-Lee for an impressive 27 years before they split in 2023, having found an amusing way to keep their sex life exciting during the course of those three decades.

The former couple first met in 1995 on Australian TV series Corelli, tying the knot a year later before going on to have two children.

However, in September last year, they announced that they’d decided to call it a day, saying in a joint statement how their family ‘has been and always will be’ their ‘highest priority’.

"We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” they said.

“Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth."

The statement added: “We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.

“We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”

While their relationship ultimately came to an end, a marriage spanning almost three decades is, of course, something to be celebrated.

And it sounds like they had a novel way to keep things interesting.

Back in 2013, Deborra joked how it always felt like she was ‘having affairs’ - something that was all down to husband Hugh’s line of work.

Speaking to Town & Country magazine, she was asked if she liked Hugh rocking a beard, a look he’s sported in many of his films.

She replied "I do. But I like him clean-shaven."

Deborra added: "But I like him all ways: chubby, muscley, skinny. I'm always having affairs... Don't make that headline!"

So while she preferred her husband fresh-faced, Deborra was able to appreciate Hugh however he looked, joking that it almost made it seem like she was with another fella each time.

Earlier this year, Deborra admitted she’d found the transition after the separation ‘frightening’, but said it ended up being a hugely positive mood.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, she explained why the new path left her feeling both nervous and excited, saying: “You know what, change, transition, evolution is a little frightening and we are all a bit scared of it but I think it is probably our greatest gift.

“It is kind of exciting.”
