George Clooney made a savage remark about Donald Trump just days before their longstanding feud was reignited.

If you're not in the loop, the Oscar-winning actor, 64, was the subject of a fiery rant penned by the US President, 79, on New Year's Eve.

Trump didn't take too kindly to the Ocean's Eleven star, his wife Amal, 47, and their eight-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, recently becoming official citizens of France.

The celebrity couple bought a farm in the country in 2021 and have described it as their primary residence, as they see it as a more suitable location to raise their children.

Clooney told Esquire Magazine in October: "I was worried about raising our kids in LA, in the culture of Hollywood."

Adding: "I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”

The French government's interior ministry didn't explain why the Clooneys were entitled to French citizenship but said in a statement to The Associated Press that the couple 'followed a rigorous procedure' with security checks and interviews required as part of the process.

However, Trump was not happy and took to Truth Social to air out his opinion.

The Republican leader penned: "Good News! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political prognosticators of all time, have officially become citizens of France, which is, sadly, in the midst of a major crime problem because of their absolutely horrendous handling of immigration, much like we had under Sleepy Joe Biden."

He continued: "Remember when Clooney, after the now infamous debate, dumped Joe during a fundraiser, only to go onto the side of another stellar candidate, Jamala(K!), who is now fighting it out with the worst governor in the Country, including Tim Waltz, Gavin Newscum, for who is going to lead the Democrats to their future defeat."

"Clooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies. He wasn’t a movie star at all; he was just an average guy who complained constantly about common sense in politics. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

As per Deadline, Clooney responded with a snarky statement about the US midterms, in which he said: "I totally agree with the current president. We have to make America great again. We’ll start in November."

And as we say, the snappy exchange came just days after Clooney made a brutal remark about Trump in an interview with Variety, which was published on 30 December.

He also revealed that despite their public swipes at each other, the high-profile pair used to be friends.

Clooney recalled: "I knew him very well. He used to call me a lot, and he tried to help me get into a hospital once to see a back surgeon. I’d see him out at clubs and at restaurants. He’s a big goofball."

Before making sure to add: "Well, he was. That all changed." Ouch.

The Hollywood star also criticised TV networks ABC and CBS's decisions to settle defamation lawsuits filed by Trump.

He said: "If CBS and ABC had challenged those lawsuits and said, ‘Go f**k yourself,’ we wouldn’t be where we are in the country. That’s simply the truth."

Tyla previously contacted ABC, CBS, and representatives of George Clooney for further comment.
