Fern Britton makes brave admission on fearing sex following divorce

Fern Britton makes brave admission on fearing sex following divorce

The former This Morning host also claimed she wanted 'to be seen' in her next relationship

Fern Britton has claimed she wants to experience ‘ideal sex’ with her next romantic partner, despite fears of ‘being critiqued’ in bed.

Ex-This Morning host Fern, 67, shocked fans in 2020 by splitting from her husband of 20 years, Phil Vickery.

After their divorce was finalised, she claimed their break-up was necessary to ‘follow [their] own paths’ and ‘move on’ with their lives.

Four years later, the mother-of-four is seemingly ready to reclaim love in her life.

In a new interview, Fern admitted that while bedroom antics aren’t ‘enormously important’ to her, she is ready to have a ‘romantic’ experience with a partner, rather than simply ‘sex for sex’.

"It's more [about] exposing yourself to a stranger's eyes and [thinking], Will I be critiqued badly?,” she confessed to Woman and Home magazine.

"Do I want to be critiqued? I want the ideal sex, which is romantic, gentle, fulfilling and looking into each other's eyes.

"No gymnastics, not being given accessories to wear or use, not sex for sex.”

Fern went on to insist that she wanted to embark on a relationship with someone who is ‘really into’ her as a person, even if he boasts a ‘big beer tummy and hairy ears."

"Well, if I love him, that will be fine! To be seen, that’s what we would all prefer,” she added.

Despite spending two decades with 63-year-old Phil, Fern claimed she only connects with him on a ‘basic level’ now.

Moreover, she disclosed that she has no desire to discover what he is doing in his personal life, saying: "That's not my business anymore."

Earlier this year, the Celebrity Big Brother housemate stated marriage would never be on the cards for her again.

"I don't want to live with anyone – and I don't want to get married again,” she told The Mail on Sunday.

"I'm a very independent person and the older I get the more I realise I like freedom."

She added: "If someone incredible came along who could put up with me, I'd say yes. It would be the icing on the cake really.”

Before saying ‘I do’ to Phil, Fern was previously married to Clive Jones, a TV executive.

The pair met while he was still married to his previous wife and embarked on a year-long affair before calling it quits.

Eventually, Clive decided to leave his spouse for Fern and the pair went on to tie the knot in 1988.

The former couple welcomed three children into the world - twins Harry and Jack and daughter Grace- before calling it quits in 2000.

In the same year, Fern tied the knot with Phil and they later welcomed their only daughter Winifred.
