It feels like more and more celebs these days are coming forward with admissions about the various work they've had done in the past with Kris Jenner being of no exception.

The 69-year-old reality TV star has left fans shocked over the past few months ever since debuting her post-op 'glow-up' on social media back in March, before continuing to make headlines ever since with every new selfie shared with her 51.7 million followers on Instagram.

Opening up about the recent surgery she's had done, Kris told Vogue in a new interview, which was published Tuesday (26 August): "I had a facelift about 15 years ago, so it was time for a refresh.

"I decided to do this facelift because I want to be the best version of myself, and that makes me happy."

The Kardashians matriach, who is set to celebrate her 70th birthday in just a few months' time in November, went on to share her mindset when it comes to the notion of 'ageing gracefully'.

"Just because you get older, it doesn’t mean you should give up on yourself," she continued. "If you feel comfortable in your skin and you want to age gracefully – meaning you don’t want to do anything – then don’t do anything.

"But for me, this is ageing gracefully. It’s my version."

Explaining why she's opening up about it all now, Kris shared: "I decided to reveal some details because I feel it can be very inspirational to people who aren’t feeling so great about themselves.

"Even when I had my hip replacement, we filmed it. I have the conviction that sharing these things can be helpful."

But, with all this candid chatter about facelifts and all the other popular procedures much of Hollywood's finest are doing, people have been left very curious as to what actually happens during the surgery with a graphic animation video showing exactly that.

Take a look:

What is a facelift?

Now, as we know, a facelift (AKA a rhytidectomy) is a seemingly increasingly common cosmetic surgical procedure celebrities and regular people opt for in order to create a younger look in the face.

It can reduce sagging skin as well as help smooth folds of skin on the cheeks and jawline.

What happens during a facelift?

During a facelift, a flap of skin on each side of the face is pulled back.

Next, tissues below the skin are altered and excess skin is removed - this is what gives the face a more youthful shape.

A neck lift is often done as part of a facelift, reducing fat and sagging skin on the neck.

What are the risks of a facelift?

As per the Mayo Clinic, facelift surgery can cause an array of complications including:

  • Hematoma. A collection of blood (hematoma) under the skin is the most common complication of a facelift. A hematoma causes swelling and pressure. It usually forms within 24 hours of surgery. When a hematoma forms, prompt treatment with surgery helps prevent damage to the skin and other tissues.
  • Scarring. Incision scars from a facelift are permanent. However, they're typically hidden by the hairline and natural contours of the face and ear. Rarely, incisions can result in raised scars.
  • Nerve injury. Injury to nerves is rare. An injury can affect nerves that control sensation or muscles. This effect may be temporary or permanent. Temporary loss of feeling or not being able to move a muscle of the face can last a few months to a year. It could result in an uneven facial appearance or expression. Surgery may offer some improvement.
  • Hair loss. You might experience temporary or permanent hair loss near the incision sites. Permanent hair loss can be addressed with surgery to transplant skin with hair follicles.
  • Skin loss. Rarely, a facelift can interrupt the blood supply to facial tissues. This can result in skin loss. Skin loss is treated with medications and appropriate wound care. If necessary, a procedure can reduce scarring.

"Like any other type of major surgery, a facelift poses a risk of bleeding or infection. There's also a risk of having a reaction to the anaesthesia. Certain medical conditions or lifestyle habits can also increase the risk of complications," the experts add.
