A tribute The Voice star Dylan Carter shared in honour of his late mother has been unearthed following his sudden death.

The 24-year-old, who rose to fame on the 24th season of the reality-singing competition, tragically died on Saturday (25 Apr) in a car accident.

The incident occurred in Colleton County, South Carolina, days before Carter was set to perform in the small nearby town of Moncks Corner.

The town's mayor, Thomas Hamilton Jr., confirmed the star's death in a statement shared to Facebook, writing: "Our family is heartbroken to hear about the passing of Dylan Carter in a car accident.

"As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at Town events. His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt."

Hamilton Jr continued: "To the loved ones and acquaintances of Dylan, we offer our sincerest condolences during this difficult period.

"The Town of Moncks Corner, its Council, and entire staff extend their deepest sympathies. He was much more to our family than an entertainer he was our friend and we are deeply saddened."

The mayor added that Carter is 'home with his Momma now', referencing the passing of the musician's mother, Julie, who died in October 2022.

Carter previously discussed the loss of Julie during his time on The Voice.

In a social media video shared in November, five months prior to his own death, Carter revealed it would have been his mother's 51st birthday.

"I’d give anything to watch her grow old and become a grandma!" he wrote in the caption at the time. "Enjoy this little vid of me feeding some fish and singing one of her favourite songs."

In the clip, Carter told his followers: "I am just living each day to make her proud, and I'm singing non-stop."

He then performed an acoustic rendition of 'I Will Always Love You', by Whitney Houston, adding: "Every time I hear it, I picture her with her arms wide open, singing every word - so I'm gonna give it a shot."

Fans of the star have since shared tributes in the comments of the clip, one of which read: "I love you Dylan. I was so excited to see you in Charleston.. You were the kindest soul. Heaven gained another angel. Now you’re with your sweet mama again.. Until we sing again."

Another penned: "I’m crying, we shared this journey together - our talks meant so much. I honestly will never forget you. Heaven gained angel. Your spirit was so beautiful and our last conversation will forever remain with me."

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Corporal, Nick Pye, the fatal collision that killed Carter saw a 2026 Tesla leave the road before striking a curve, utility pole and fence before overturning.

Carter was transported to hospital where attempts were made to save his life.

Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries.

Reba McEntire, Carter's television singing coach, shared a statement online in the wake of his unexpected death.

"We will miss Dylan so much," she wrote. "He was a brilliant, kind and talented young man who brought a huge ray of sunshine to The Voice. Rest in peace, my dear friend."
