David Beckham praised for kissing 12-year-old daughter Harper on the lips

The former footballer has been congratulated for his parenting style

David Beckham has been praised for kissing his 12-year-old daughter, Harper, on the lips.

In a recent Instagram post, the 48-year-old former footballer shared with his 83.2 million followers a 'get ready with me' style video which saw Harper help him get ready for Paris Fashion Week.

The father-daughter duo can be seen singing along to Taylor Swift as Harper carefully applied makeup to Beckham's face before he thanked her at the end with a kiss on the lips. See the video here:

The Paris Saint-Germain star has since been inundated with an avalanche of support from fans praising him as a father.

On the video, which has since clocked up more than a million likes, one Instagram user penned: "Every girl needs a father like this in her life."

A second commented: "Absolutely heart melting to watch. What a superb father and role model."

"I love your father daughter relationship," wrote a third. "Warms my heart."

A fourth remarked: "If only every little girl in the world had a daddy like Becks! What great childhoods they would have an what fantastic people they’d pick as partners for themselves!"

"What a great dad," echoed another.

Others, however, weren't as supportive with one viewer writing: "Beautiful daddy daughter bond but a kiss on the lips doesn’t look right.

"She is a young lady now not a toddler."

And this is by no means the first criticism the footballing icon has received for the way he shows affection with his four children, with many finding the lip-on-lip kissing between parents and children to be slightly odd.

Beckham has previously defended his parenting style and explained the gesture was nothing more than an innocent way to express love for your child.

Speaking during a Facebook Live interview in 2017, he said: "We want to show our kids love.

"I got criticised for kissing my daughter on the lips the other day.

"I kiss all my kids on the lips."

The former Manchester United player continued: "Brooklyn, maybe not. Brooklyn's 18, he might find that a little bit strange.

"But I'm very affectionate with the kids. It's how I was brought up and Victoria, and it's how we are with our children."

The father-of-four resolved: "We want to show our kids love and we protect them, look after them, and support them, and you know, we're very affectionate with them."
