Learning you'll soon be a grandmother is exciting. Discovering you have been one unknowingly for 15 years is something else entirely.

Such was the case for Cher, after Julia Andrews' step-granddaughter, Kayti Edwards, revealed she actually welcomed a daughter 15 years ago with the musician's younger son, Elijah Blue Allman.

In a bombshell new interview with The Sun, published on Sunday (19 Apr), Edwards confirmed that she'd gotten pregnant by Allman back in 2010, when the two were briefly involved.

The former model added, however, that 49-year-old Allman hadn't been involved with his daughter, whom she named Ever, as he'd 'never wanted to be a parent'.

Edwards, who now owns a horse rescue facility in Joshua Tree, California, added that Allman had only informed his now-estranged wife, Marieangela King, that he'd secretly fathered her child following a drug overdose in 2021.

This revelation supposedly 'started rumours in the family', but wasn't confirmed until Cher reached out to Edwards last summer.

"Cher got in touch with me last June and asked if it was true, so I had to confess," Edwards claimed. "She said she had heard something about it from Elijah back in 2021, but didn't know if it was just crazy talk.

"When she heard the news, she was speechless."

Edwards - actress Julie Andrews' husband Blake Edwards' daughter from his first marriage - added that the 79-year-old singer is 'still processing the news' that she's been a grandmother for the last decade-and-a-half, but immediately attempted to form a relationship with Ever.

She claimed Cher even invited the teen to stay for the night at her Malibu home last year.

Edwards added of the 'Believe' star: "She was lovely and kind, and we had dinner. Cher asked Ever if she wanted to see her closet and showed her a pair of jeans she had worn in concert. It was a cool experience for her.

"Cher was very childlike. They played in the pool, and she spoke to Ever about school and asked her about boys."

Since then, Cher, who shares her youngest with singer-songwriter Gregg Allman, has sent her granddaughter gifts for both Christmas and her birthday.

"Cher really is trying," Edwards added. "It's an adjustment, and I'm not pushing any relationship. It has to come naturally. Elijah and his wife always said Cher didn't want to be a grandma and to keep Ever away, so I was nervous to introduce her, but it's been nothing but a good experience."

Lastly, she added that she had opted not to reveal to Ever who her father is until last month.

"He wanted to see her and have a relationship with her, but he wasn't in any state," Edwards explained. "I had to shelter her from him, and when he gets better, he will appreciate that.

"He needs to get back to being the guy I once knew, and Cher agrees. We need to get him better."

The revelation hit international headlines days after Cher filed a legal request to have Allman placed under a temporary conservatorship following years of addiction struggles.

She argued that her son is 'gravely disabled', 'has no concept of money', 'is unable to manage his financial resources', and 'is unable to withstand fraud of undue influence', due to his 'severe mental health and addiction issues'.

The plea marked the second of its kind in three years. Her last was dismissed in September 2024 after reaching a private arrangement.

Cher's latest appeal was backed by Allman's half-brother, Devon, who agreed in court filings that he is 'currently a danger to himself and unable to manage his life and any funds that could become available to him'.

According to a press release obtained by PEOPLE, the request comes a month after Allman was arrested in New Hampshire following a residential break-in incident that involved forced entry.

His March arrest itself came a week after another altercation with police in Concord, whereby a disturbance at a prep school was reported, as per the city's police department.

A hearing on Cher's conservatorship plea has been set for this Friday (24 Apr).
