Cate Blanchett reveals sad reason why she only has one photo from her wedding

Cate Blanchett revealed why she's been able to make peace with only having one 'blurry' photo from her special day back in 1997

Cate Blanchett has revealed the sad reason why she only has one photo from her wedding.

Many people regard their wedding day as one of the most important days of their lives - along with milestone birthdays, major anniversaries and whichever day you welcomed your children to the world.

The 55-year-old Ocean's Eight star sat down on The Drew Barrymore Show on Thursday (13 March), where she opened up a little more about the big day which took place nearly three decades back in 1997.

"When I got married, which is a very long time ago, 27 years ago," the Hollywood A-lister who tied the knot with fellow Aussie, 59-year-old playwright Andrew Upton, began.

She went on to call it a 'miracle' to be married 'to the same person' for so long, adding: "I'm still married for 27 years!"

The Black Bag actress continued to explain exactly why she and Upton had so little snaps from their special day: "When we got married we had absolutely no money. We couldn't have a photographer and we had two friends who were photographers.

"One guy who got so drunk he forgot to load film in the camera and the other one had such a good time that he didn't take any pictures, and as a result, we have one picture of our wedding."

Describing the one singular wedding photo they do have, Blanchett shared that it was 'a blurry picture of the two of us getting in the car, but I really remember the night as a result'.

While she's clearly happy to discuss the whole thing now, it seems that wasn't always the case.

"I was so sad and so upset and I wept at the time that we didn't have any pictures, but in the end I'm kind of quite pleased that I don't have any pictures because I then constantly try and recall the evening," Blanchett resolved.

Opening up about their relationship in a 1999 interview with Vanity Fair, Blanchett revealed that while it was far from love at first sight, it was only a few weeks until the pair soon realised they'd found their person.

"He thought I was aloof and I thought he was arrogant," she told the outlet at the time. "And it just shows how wrong you can be. But once he kissed me, that was that."

After just 21 days of dating, Upton popped the question and, of course, Blanchett said yes!

Following their 90s wedding, the couple have since welcomed three sons together; Dashiell, 23, Roman, 20, and Ignatius, 17, as well as one daughter, Edith, 10.
