It's good news for fans of The Sinner - the popular telly drama has officially been renewed for a fourth season.

The announcement was made this week, with USA Network President Chris McCumber revealing to TVLine: "The Sinner has struck a chord with audiences with its signature 'whydunnit' style.

"In season four, we're excited to dig even deeper into the psyche of Bill Pullman's beloved Detective Ambrose character, while introducing our audience to a compelling, completely new mystery."

Although us Brits are yet to see the third instalment - which will arrive on Netflix on Friday, 19th June - we were hooked to the first two seasons, the first of which starred Jessica Biel.

The actress, 38, was nominated for an Emmy, a Golden Globe and Critic's Choice Award for her role as Cora Tannetti and has gone on to be executive producer for the following seasons.

As Season 4 has only just been announced, there are currently no details on plot just yet. However Season 3 promises to be the "most shocking story" yet.

Bill Pullman reprises his role as Detective Harry Ambrose, as he begins an investigation of a tragic car accident in upstate New York.

The incident may at first appear to be straightforward, but the case ends up being the most dangerous and disturbing of his career (and if you've watched the first two seasons, you'll know that's quite the statement).

A trailer for the show, released late last year, gave viewers a glimpse inside the plot. It begins at the scene of the accident, which involves Dorchester resident and dad-to-be, Jamie Burns (played by Matt Bomer).

However, Harry soon realises a mysterious character, named Nick Haas (played by The Mindy Project's Chris Messina), appears to have a dark hold over Jamie - but he isn't sure why.

It all sounds very dramatic and if it's anything like the first two, we know we'll be hooked. If you're yet to watch them, you can catch up on Netflix now.

Season 3 will arrive on the streaming platform on Friday 19th June. It's definitely a good week for The Sinner fans!
