'The Circle' Signs Up ‘GMB’ Host Richard Madeley - And You Get To Pick His Catfish Persona

'The Circle' has signed up its first celebrity cast member – and you're certainly going to recognise him from 'Good Morning Britain'...

One Good Morning Britain host is officially joining the new series of The Circle as a celebrity player.

Just yesterday we revealed the new line-up of the Channel 4 show, which features a 58-year-old Oxford professor who once ran to be a UKIP MP, and none other than Zoe Ball and Fatboy Slim's 18-year-old son.

But now, just in case that wasn't enough, the Emma Willis-fronted show has thrown us another curveball.

Richard Madeley is a popular TV personality
ITV

Ahead of tonight's launch, they have revealed that Richard - who is best known as one half of Richard and Judy - will be entering the social media experiment under an alias that the public get to decide.

And the best thing? He doesn't care how "extreme and embarrassing" it is. We can certainly have some fun with this...

Viewers will get to pick the 63-year-old's profile during the live launch tonight, meaning that the contestants won't know they have a celebrity in their midst.

Speaking about his stint on the show, Richard claimed he hopes to be an "agent of mischief" and stir things up.

Judy was reportedly 'baffled' when Richard signed up to 'The Circle'
ITV

He added that his wife Judy was "baffled" by the news of his appearance on the show at first, but he has since managed to sell her on the idea.

"Normally I say no to most reality shows, things like Strictly and I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here and stuff. So she was a bit surprised as to why I said yes. 'Then when I explained it to her she kind of got it," he said

"But Jack, my son and Chloe my daughter, were thrilled. They thought it was a really, really cool thing to do."

The TV star added: "This is going to be my Boaty McBoatface moment.

Emma WIllis will be hosting 'The Circle'
Channel 4

"You ask the public to vote on something like this, we tend to get an extreme result! So they're definitely going to cast me in a very strange persona, which I'm going to have to pretend to be.

"The whole thing just sounded really different, really funny and I thought "why not?""

Last year, Alex Hobern won big as he pretended to be his girlfriend, and shocked other contestants when they learnt his true identity.

But as the new series finally arrives, who will triumph this time...a real person or a catfish?

The Circle returns to Channel 4 on tonight (24 September).
