Disney's live-action remakes have proven to be big hits amongst audiences across the globe, and now the company has confirmed Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - the first animated Disney film - will be the next one to go into production.
The iconic role will be played by Rachel Zegler, who is pretty much a newcomer. She will make her big screen debut as Maria in the remake of West Side Story which is due to be released in December this year.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be directed by Marc Webb who also directed the rom-com 500 Days of Summer and the two Spider-Man films starring Andrew Garfield. The casting announcement was first reported by Deadline on Tuesday. Production is set to begin in 2022.

Rachel is clearly over the moon about landing the role and has posted a series of tweets and even a short video of her meeting Snow White at Disneyland. "Homegirl we have LOTS to catch up on," she wrote in the Tweet accompanying the video.

The original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs film was released in December 1937 as the very first feature length Disney animated film. Its success paved the way for future classics including Sleeping Beauty, Mulan and 2013's behemoth franchise Frozen.
Like many of the Disney films that followed, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was based on the 1812 German fairy tale "Snow White" by the Brothers Grimm.

In recent years Disney has released live-action adaptations based on Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Dumbo, Cinderella, Mulan and many more. A remake based on The Little Mermaid starring musician and actress Halle Bailey is currently in production. The cast also includes Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Javier Bardem and Melissa McCarthy.
The remake will include both original tunes from the 1989 animated film, as well as including new songs from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. It will be produced by John DeLuca, Marc Platt and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
No release date has been announced for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs or The Little Mermaid but we'll let you know as soon as its announced!
