In recent years Disney has given us a several live action remakes of their animated classics. From Cinderella to Aladdin, to Dumbo the list is ever growing. Now the ohana of adaptions may be getting a little bit bigger because Jon M. Chu, the director of Crazy Rich Asians, is in talks to direct a live-action version of Lilo & Stitch.

Details about the planned live-action movie are scarce. As far as we know nobody has been cast yet, there is no screenwriter and we don't know if the film will be in theatres or Disney+ like Mulan.

The animated film came out in 2002 (

Variety reports that Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback, the company that produced 2019's Aladdin, will produce the remake with Ryan Halprin serving as an executive producer.

Lilo & Stitch originally came out in 2002 and tells the adorable story of Lilo, a six-year-old Hawaiian girl, who lives with her 19-year-old sister Nani after their parents pass away in a car accident. She meets a blue, animal-like creature officially called Experiment 626, who is adopted by Lilo as her pet "dog" and renamed Stitch.

Their initial relationship is incredibly hectic and chaotic because Stitch was engineered by his mad scientist creator to cause destruction, but the pair eventually form a close bond thanks to the Hawaiian concept of ohana, or extended family.

Lilo & Stitch has inspired several TV shows and direct-to-video sequels (

The film has since become a franchise and has inspired numerous spin-offs, including the direct-to-video sequels Stich: The Movie, Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch and Leroy & Stitch. Lilo & Stitch: The Series aired on the Disney Channel between 2003 to 2006, too.

Lilo & Stitch has also proved to be incredibly popular in Asia. An anime TV spin-off called Stitch! was broadcast in Japan between 2008 to 2015, and a Chinese spin-off Stitch & Ai aired in 2017.

Chu is best known for directing 2018's Crazy Rich Asians, the first Hollywood movie in 25 years to feature a predominately Asian and Asian American cast.

In other Lilo & Stitch news, several Disney movies, including Lilo & Stitch, trended on Twitter on Saturday after a user posted a poll and said, rather threateningly, "one soundtrack has to go". Yikes.

The four Disney movies that were included in the poll were: Aladdin, Lilo & Stitch, Mulan and Hercules.

Over 320,000 people voted in the poll, with Lilo and Stitch's soundtrack sadly getting the boot with 43.9 per cent of the vote.

Lilo & Stitch is not known of its original music and sadly proved no match to some of the most iconic movie songs of all time, such as 'Reflection', 'A Whole New World' and 'Go the Distance'.

On person tweeted along with a sad gif of Stitch, "Having to wake up to the Lilo slander. Never in all my days." Another fan responded to the poll with, "how do you hear Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride and still say Lilo and Stitch."

Another person defended the film. They said: "Normally I don't bother with Twitter drama, but it seems pretty unfair that Lilo and Stitch has to compete with the likes of Hercules and Mulan when it's not even a musical." Fair point.

Another tweeted ominously: "If y'all are saying Lilo & Stitch has the worst ost then this website is beyond salvaging". One person reacted to people voting the soundtrack the worst out of the four with: "The Lilo & Stitch soundtrack is PHENOMENAL. They are doing it so dirty...."

Someone else chipped in and said: "Y'all are voting for Lilo and Stitch????? WHEN IT HAS HAWAIIAN ROLLERCOASTER RIDE?????

We don't know when Disney are planning to release the remake but we already know it's gonna be big!
