Netflix, your timing is impeccable. The streaming service is adding the entire fifth season Peaky Blinders on Wednesday and we could not think of anything better to soothe our isolation woes than some Cillian Murphy and Sam Claflin action.

Yes, series 5 of the Birmingham-based gangster drama first aired on the BBC in August 2019 - and now we can relive the explosive season all over again.

To recap, (spoilers incoming) the fifth instalment saw Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) battle a formidable new enemy in Oswald Moseley (Sam Claflin), the slimy and cunning leader of the British Union of Fascists.

Meanwhile, Michael Gary (Finn Cole) and his new wife Gina Gary (Anya Taylor Joy) return from America, and the Shelbys make a truce with the Billy Boys in an attempt to win back riches lost in the Wall Street crash by entering the opium smuggling business with the Chinese.

Later in the series, Michael makes his bid to be head of the Peaky Blinders arguing that their drug smuggling expansion made him the most beneficial, and says Tommy should be demoted to a hidden associate. Tommy rejects the plan which sees Michael split off from the family.

Elsewhere, Tommy battles fresh visions of Grace, Polly Gray (Helen McCrory) hands in her resignation to the family business and Alfie Solomons (Tom Hardy) makes a surprise return, much to the delight of fans.

The series ended with the Peakys and Billy Boys forming a plan in order to bring down fascist leader Moseley. However, their assassination plans are foiled when their sniper is killed before he can carry out the deed. Meanwhile, Aberama Gold is murdered.

Final scenes show Tommy trying to work out who betrayed them, and fans had their suspicions in Gina Gray.

It was one of the most tense series yet, with the family and business at breaking point. We just hope the Shelby's can get themselves back on top form in series 6.

Series 5 is the latest season of the drama to be added to Netflix, with series 1 to 4 already streaming - perfect for anyone who fancies watching the entire thing again! Why not, eh?

The sixth series, which was in pre-production in January but has been put on pause amid coronavirus, is expected to follow the rise of fascism.

"In [series 6], we'll be looking at 1934 and things are worse. The drum beat is getting louder, tensions are worse and Tommy is right in the middle of all that," writer Steven Knight told NME.

"Again, it will be an exploration of what was going on in the '30s and how certain things transpired."

The sixth series was expected to air in 2021, but we can expect delays after production was halted due to COVID-19 lockdown measures.

Sigh. I guess we'll just have to wait a little bit longer to find out who the snitch was...
