Disney has just announced the main cast members of the Lizzie McGuire series are set to return in the revival of the 90s TV show alongside Hilary Duff.

When Hilary announced back in August that Disney would pick the series back up with Lizzie as a 30-year-old, we were already excited.

But now Disney has confirmed via Instagram that Hallie Todd and Robert Carradine will reprise their roles as her parents Jo and Sam and Jake Thomas will take back his role as Lizzie's brother, Matt.

The cast of the Disney hit series - that originally aired from 2001 - 2004 - met up this week for a read-through of the first script for the sequel, which means filming could be officially beginning very soon!

Disney said in an Instagram post: "A picture perfect fam! Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine, and Jake Thomas will reprise their roles as Jo, Sam, and Matt McGuire with Hilary Duff in #LizzieMcguire, an all-new @DisneyPlus series coming soon."

It's exciting when an old classic of a TV shows get rebooted, but it's rare the original cast all come back.

The new streamable series will be available on Disney Plus, but there is currently no release date.

All we know is the cast are beginning to film ASAP by the looks of things, so we expect to see it land late next year - fingers crossed.

The new story will resume with a now 30-year-old Lizzie who is an apprentice to an interior designer in New York. But according to Duff she hasn't got it all worked out just yet.

She said in an interview earlier this year with Entertainment Weekly: "I think it's just the right time for her to step back in and have her go along with you and your thirties and all of the fun times and all of the big monumental moments and all of the challenges that you're faced with.

"I just thought there was such opportunity there for her to be grown up and for her to be there for women again."

Original creator of the show Terri Minski will also return as show runner, so we will see someone at the helm that knows the McGuire family inside out.

Ricky Strauss, president, Content & Marketing, Disney Plus said in a statement: "We are incredibly excited to bring back one of the most popular Disney Channel series of all time along with some beloved and familiar faces.

"With Terri at the helm and Hilary, Hallie, Robert, and Jake back after all these years, it's our honor to welcome the McGuire family into the Disney+ family."

We do love a family reunion!
