The new movie - which adapts the 2018 Broadway version of the 2004 classic flick - will be available to watch in theatres on 12 January.

The original cast of saw the likes of Lindsay Lohan play Cady Heron, Rachel McAdams as Regina George and Amanda Seyfried as Karen Smith.

The upcoming remake sees the likes of Tina Fey, who played Ms Norbury, as well as Tim Meadows, who played Principal Duvall, return to the flick after nearly two decades.

New stars joining the Mean Girls family include Angourie Rice who takes on the role of Cady, Renée Rapp as Regina, Avantika Vandanapu as Karen Smith, Bebe Wood playing Gretchen Wieners - so fetch - and Auli'i Cravalho as Janis I'mi'ike.

And it doesn't stop there.

Any fans of The Office will be happy to hear that Jenna Fischer will be playing Cady’s mom, while Busy Philipps gears up to take on the role Regina’s 'cool mom' originally played by Amy Poehler.

Fey wrote the book for the Broadway play with music created by her husband Jeff Richmond alongside lyrics by Nell Benjamin.

"The songs are sounding really more kind of pop," Fey revealed on Late Night With Seth Meyers back in February of this year.

The comedian continued: "It’s a fascinating process actually because in Broadway everything has to play to the back of the house and in movies everything can come back in and things can play really intimately.

"We have a very cool directing team, a very cool choreographer."

Tina Fey will be returning as Ms Norbury.

It's fair to say that fans all over are beyond thrilled by the news with many rushing to social media to share their reactions.

One X, formerly Twitter user, penned: "Love this. Saw it when the musical first came out and it was great."

"This just makes me so happy!" wrote a second.

A third chimed in: "Oh this kinda ate Ngl."

"It looks good. I can't wait to watch it," added a fourth.

"This looks awesome!!!" echoed another praised while a sixth quipped: "This is so fetched!"

A final Twitter user praised: "A harmonious blend of heart and art."

The musical reboot of Mean Girls is set to hit theatres 12 January 2024.
