Line Of Duty's Anna Maxwell Martin Tipped To Be Named As Next Doctor Who

Line Of Duty's Anna Maxwell Martin Tipped To Be Named As Next Doctor Who

The TARDIS could be set to get a whole lot more passive-aggressive.

Line of Duty is all anyone is talking about right now, with the sixth season about to reach what's set to be a hugely dramatic conclusion on Sunday.

AC-12 are closing in on the elusive 'H' - the 'Fourth Man' and senior police officer who is thought to be the main link between the police and the OCG.

But time is rapidly running out for the anti-corruption group, with DI Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) facing a potential yellow notice for failing to attend a doctor's appointment, and Superintendent Ted Hastings being forced into an early retirement.

Due to their increased activity in trying to chase H, a shaken senior police force have decided to merge anti-corruption units, bringing in familiar face Patricia Carmichael (Anna Maxwell Martin) to supervise/keep control of Ted as he doggedly tries to bring down the OCG.

Anna Maxwell Martin, who briefly appeared in Line of Duty season five, is brilliantly hateable as Carmichael, the softly-spoken, passive-aggressive anti-corruption head who patronises Ted and Steve, as well as firmly putting a stop to any investigation into H (prompting theories that she herself is the mysterious 'fourth man').

But as much as we all want Carmichael to get in the bin, it only shows just how amazing Anna is as an actor - and has now seen the odds hugely slashed on whether could be taking on another hugely iconic role in the future.

Yep, Anna is now one of the favourites to replace Jodie Whittaker in Doctor Who as the 14th Doctor, with her odds tumbling from 50/1 to just 10/1, according to Betfair.

Meanwhile fellow Line of Duty stars Kelly MacDonald (Jo Davidson) and Vicky McClure (Kate Fleming) are 6/1 second favourite and 7/1 third favourite respectively in the betting.

Anna may be firmly wedged in our minds as Carmichael, but she's also played a variety of roles throughout her 20-year career.

As well as starring in Death Comes To Pemberley and Good Omens, Anna is also more thank capable at flexing her comedy chops as one of the leads in hit BBC comedy Motherland.

"Line of Duty fans will be excited to see Anna Maxwell Martin join her fellow Line of Duty stars Kelly MacDonald and Vicky McClure among the favourites to be the next Time Lord," Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom explained.

"She has seen her odds slashed to 10/1, with MacDonald and McClure among the front runners at 6/1 and 7/1 respectively.

"While she plays the villainous Patricia Carmichael running AC-12, she has shown a warmer side in the likes of hit comedy Motherland, with punters convinced the breakout actress would make a fantastic successor to Jodie Whittaker."

It is thought Jodie, who took up the legendary sci-fi role in 2018, will be leaving the show later this year - but this is yet to be officially confirmed by the BBC.

Currently, Michaela Coel, the writer, director and star of I May Destroy You, is the odds-on favourite to replace Jodie at 4/1.
