Killing Eve fans are all saying the same thing after the latest trailer for the fourth and final series was released yesterday - things are not going to end well between Villanelle and Eve.

In the high-octane teaser, TV lovers watched as the duelling duo's chaotic cat-and-mouse game is about to run out of time with Eve's obsession coming to a head alongside Villanelle's desire to kill.

In the trailer, the sound of a clock ticking acts as a musical bed to Fiona Shaw's character Carolyn Martens ominous words: "Do you ever think what might have happened if we didn't do what we did?"

The pair's seemingly doomed ending is further pushed as Carolyn adds, "People like us aren't made for happy lives with happy endings."

In between the feverish music, scenes of Villanelle attacking someone as a clown, Eve in an empty theatre and Carolyn spitting at something off-camera are spliced through.

After the clip was shared on the show's official social media, fans flocked to Twitter to share their delight over the drama's return while others insisted the writing is on the wall - their possible demise.

One wrote: "I just watched the Killing Eve teaser and yeah it doesn't look like things are gonna end well."

"Killing Eve fans be like 'Ik villaneve are endgame they're going to be happy' like honey did you not watch Fleabag or no time to die??" another remarked.

"A happy ending is a foreign language to Phoebe Waller Bridge".

While a third shared: "Okay so I just watched the Killing Eve season 4 trailer and I'm gonna gamble Villanelle had something to do with Eve needing a scooter".

Fans will remember season three ended with Villanelle and Eve vowing to never see each other again.

However, one last look back made it clear that quitting each other may be easier said than done.

Killing Eve also stars Kim Bodnia as Konstantin Vasiliev, Villanelle's longtime handler, who appear to literally get iced out this season if the trailer is anything to go by.

We can't wait to see how this season plays out one final time.

Killing Eve returns to BBC on Sunday, February 27, 2022.
