This article contains major spoilers for Liar season one.

ITV has unveiled the first sneak peak at the second season of Liar, and has promised viewers that they will finally discover what happened to Andrew Earlham after season one's 'whodunnit?' cliffhanger ending.

The first series gripped fans as they tried to work out who was lying about their ill-fated date: teacher Laura Nielson (Joanne Froggatt) or respected surgeon Andrew Earlham (Ioan Gruffudd)?

But things took an even darker turn as Andrew was exposed as a serial rapist, and the six-part series ended with the surgeon's dead body lying in marshland with his throat slit in a grisly twist.

ITV has now shared three first-look snaps ahead of the second season, revealing Coronation Street Katherine Kelly as a new addition to the cast.

"Who killed Andrew Earlham? All will be revealed as Liar is returning to ITV," the broadcaster announced on Monday. "Joining Joanne Froggatt and Ioan Gruffudd this time are Katherine Kelly and Howard Charles!"

Liar season two will pick up three weeks after an arrest warrant was issued for Andrew for the sexual assault of 19 women, ITV said. But then his body is then discovered by police in the Kent marshes.

Detective Inspector Renton (Kelly) alongside DS Rory Maxwell (Danny Webb) must uncover clues about Andrew's murky past and work out what happened in the weeks leading up to his murder.

Katherine joins the series following the success of Cheat, another gripping ITV 'murder mystery' drama based around a web of lies and spiralling obsession.

The Widow star Howard Charles will also play Carl Peterson in Liar season two.

ITV has not given Liar an official air date yet, but its writers, brothers Jack and Harry Williams, told TV Times in January: "It should be out in the autumn."

We cannot wait.
