ITV has announced a brand new crime drama, Professor T, starring Ben Miller and Tony award-winner, Frances de la Tour.

The six-part drama is based on the popular Belgian series of the same name and is set at Cambridge University.

It focuses on Ben (Johnny English, Death in Paradise) who plays OCD criminologist, Professor Jasper Tempest as well as Harry Potter's Frances de la Tour as Adelaide - Jasper's mother.

Rising star Emma Naomi - who starred in The Trial of Christine Keeler and is currently appearing in London show, Blithe Spirit takes on the role of Detective Inspector Lisa Donckers alongside Barney White - who plays her sidekick, Dan Winters.

It will be directed by Indra Siera - who was at the helm of the original Belgian series - and filming will begin this summer in both Belgium and Cambridge.

The Belgian version of the series focussed on a gifted 'Professor T' who inspires his students and solves crimes for the police with his high intelligence and quizzical mind.

But, in his personal life, he struggles with crippling neurosis.

"Professor T is my all-time favourite detective - a tortured genius wrestling with a mystery childhood trauma," explained executive producer and CEO of Eagle Eye Drama, Walter Iuzzolino.

"It's a unique crime series with a core of wonderful warm characters at its heart and I am delighted to be working with our hand-picked European production team to make this for ITV and international audiences."

As filming is yet to begin, it's unknown when the show will air on ITV, but we've got a feeling it will be the end of the year, at least.
