Watching The Grinch over Christmas is one of our favourite traditions - at least, it was, until one theory came along and shook us to the core.
The theory centres around the Grinch's pet pooch, Max, and where exactly he came from.
But we'll give you a refresh of the movie's plot first.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas centres around a grumpy green monster called the Grinch, who lives at the top of Mount Crumpit with his dog, and has a hatred for Christmas.
Every year, his home gets flooded with rubbish that is left over from Whoville's Christmas celebrations, and each time this only heightens his distain for the holiday.
*Now, queue the disturbing theory...*

As TikTokker @dogmom_af explains, we find out in the movie that The Grinch first moved to the mountain when he was only a teen.
Importantly, he then remained there for years and years before he finally hatched his plan to visit Whoville himself and 'destroy Christmas', after being bombarded with rubbish and unwanted gifts.
Are you getting it yet?!
If the Grinch hadn't been to Whoville before, then how did he get his beloved pup, Max?
He was an unwanted gift, of course.

"So if you've seen the movie, go ahead and blind react to this.
"In the movie, the Grinch goes up to mount Krumpet when he's a kid and he doesn't return to Whoville until the Cheermeister celebration.
"There's that scene where he's going off about Christmas because he gets all of Whoville's trash.
"And people get bored of their Christmas gifts after like two weeks so they throw it away in the 'Dump the Krumpet' trash chute....

"If he hasn't been down to Whoville in a couple of decades [pause] where did Max come from?"
