The talk-show host has confirmed the show will air one more episode - but it'll be the last.

At this point, we don't know whether Gavin and Stacey is coming or going.

After Ruth Jones said she had 'no plans' at present to write up another episode, we'd just about given up hope of the show returning.

But James Corden has now hinted that the much-loved series will be making a comeback for one more instalment.

Honestly, it's hard to keep up...

Speaking to Metro, the Late Late Show host was coy at first about whether they'd be back.

"I don't know, is the answer. I honestly don't," he said. "We're all on a WhatsApp text group.

"All of us... and Matt [Horne] and Jo [Page] did a special radio show for BBC Wales the other day that will go out on Christmas. And we all contributed to that somewhat."

Adding that he and Ruth were "always talking" he went on: "I hope so much we do it. The next one will really be the last, final part."

The actor explained that 2020 would have been too stressful a year to pen the show.

"So we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. But I promise you, we won't lead you over that bridge unless we think it will be worth the journey," he said.

(Just give us a Smithy and Nessa wedding, James. That's all we ask.)

Ever since the hit British sitcom - which ran for three seasons between 2007 and 2010 - returned at Christmas for a one-off special on BBC One, there has been chatter about what's next for the show.

The hour-long episode was the most-watched TV of Christmas Day, and it left us on an almighty cliffhanger, with Nessa (Ruth Jones) proposing to Smithy (James Corden).

BBC's director Charlotte Moore also recently teased that more was to come from the show, but echoed James and Ruth in saying there was going to be a long wait.

"That wasn't something that was going to happen this year," she said. "One day."

Of course, with the pandemic halting so many of our favourite shows this year, it makes sense that there wouldn't be a follow up special this Christmas.

But we've got our hopes pinned on 2021 - come on James and Ruth, make it happen!
