The third and final trailer for Fantastic Beasts 2 dropped on Tuesday, and it confirmed a huge fan theory that Voldemort's snake, Nagini, was once a woman.

Fans first came up with the idea when a photo of new cast member Claudia Kim dressed in a snake-inspired outfit was released by Warner Bros. with little detail, other than she was a Maledictus.

A Maledictus is a cursed witch who turns into an animal, but is different to an Animagus, of which Professor McGonagal is.

An Animagus can control when they transform, but a Maledictus holds a 'blood curse' that 'destines her ultimately to transform into a beast'. 'Destines' seems to suggest that at some point, they will become an animal forever.

Previous trailers dropped hints that a Maledictus was part of a magical travelling wizard circus, called The Circus Arcanus, and in the latest clip, Claudia's character can be seen transforming herself into a snake inside a cage.

Fans have been theorising that Kim would be Nagini, and that Nagini was a Maledictus for months, but it's finally been confirmed.

Nagini has only been known as Lord Voldemort's loyal serpent servant and a horcrux, later being killed by Neville Longbottom with the sword of Godric Gryffindor.

Fans will now learn Nagini's backstory, before she killed Severus Snape in the Deathly Hallows.

"NAGINI IS A PERSON!?!? WTF!?!??" exclaimed one Potterhead on Twitter, with another echoing: "Nagini is a person. I need time to digest this."

Fantastic Beasts 2 is set in 1927, and Nagini is still able to transform back and forth from human to snake at her own will, although she knows her eventual fate. It's unclear when she became a snake forever.

J.K Rowling went on to confirm that Nagini was a Maledictus, sharing other details like they carry a blood curse from birth, passed down from mother to daughter.

The author also added that she had been holding Nagini's secret for 20 years.
