The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have released an adorable set of pictures of Prince Louis to mark his second birthday.

In the snaps, shared on Prince William and Kate Middleton's social media page,@KensingtonRoyal, their youngest child can be seen making rainbow handprints on a piece of paper - a symbol of respect to the NHS amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In a caption alongside the image, the royals wrote: "Sharing a sneak peek of Prince Louis's handiwork ahead of his second birthday!

"We are pleased to share images ahead of Prince Louis's second birthday tomorrow, taken by The Duchess this April."

But they weren't done yet - as Kate and Will then uploaded another set of pictures, including one of Louis with paint smeared all around his face.

"Instagram vs Reality," they joked.

Taking to the comments under the hilarious snaps, people rushed to gush how much the Prince had grown up - and how similar he looked to his elder brother, George.

"What a darling! Image of his brother!" one wrote.

While another chipped in: "He's George's mini me!!"

A third wrote: "Happy 2nd Birthday Precious Prince Louis Who knew you'd be breaking hearts around the world at just 2. Thank you @kensingtonroyal for sharing these adorable pictures by HRH The Duchess of Cambridge and for the nod to our beloved @nhsmillion @nhswebsite".

Prince Louis' rainbow artwork is part of a new trend popping up on windows across the UK, in a bid to "spread hope" in the face of adversity.

He celebrates his birthday today with Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, 4, and his parents.

Have a good one, Prince Louis!
