Most people would be hesitant to discuss their sex lives publicly, but not Orlando Bloom it seems.

The Pirates of The Caribbean actor has spoken candidly about his decision to remain celibate before meeting fiancee Katy Perry.

It came after a discussion with a close friend, with Bloom hoping the change would help him move past a period of unhappiness in his life.

Speaking to The Sunday Times back in 2020, he revealed it had been his friend Laird Hamilton who’d first introduced him to the practice.

Taking the surfer’s advice, Bloom initially vowed to remain celibate for three months but ended up extending the time after he found he had a better relationship with himself and women.

He explained: "I was going to do three months, but I was really enjoying the way I was relating to women, and to the feminine within myself."

During this time, the Calcium Kid actor also refused to watch pornography as it had too many unrealistic expectations.

"They’ve done the studies, they can’t find any kids who don’t watch it," he said.

"When you watch multiple people at multiple times in one evening, how is your actual real-life partner going to match up? It’s just so destructive.“

He found the practice extremely beneficial and said it helped him focus on other things in his life.

Despite this, the actor did admit he may have gone a little too far.

"It was insane. I don’t think it’s healthy. I don’t think it was advisable. You have to keep it moving down there," Bloom joked.

However, it seems to have done the actor no harm as he cemented his relationship with singer Katy Perry during this time.

Prior to then, the couple had dated sporadically since 2016 but became more serious after Bloom took some time away from dating and found he was ready to commit.

This was important to the Lord of The Rings actor, as he split from wife Miranda Kerr in 2013 and despite it being amicable, the divorce understandably took its toll.

Thankfully, Bloom remains good friends with the model.

Kerr is even good friends with singer Perry, recently sharing a post about their friendship on Instagram stating how ‘grateful’ she was for their blended families.

Bloom and Perry welcomed their daughter Daisy Dove in 2020, during the pandemic.

In a touching post, the pair announced the birth through UNICEF’s Instagram and highlighted the work of the children’s charity in their statement.

Both are UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors and expressed their gratitude for healthcare workers during the birth.
