Maisie Smith and Max George are in hot water with fans over their 'shameful' pregnancy post.

The couple are currently enjoying a holiday in sunny Dubai following the actor's appearance on Strictly Come Dancing.

And by the looks of things, they're having a whale of a time, with the pair sharing snaps from their trip to Instagram.

However, a recent post did not sit well with their followers at all.

It's nothing new for celebs to announce they're expecting a baby through their social media channels, I mean, it's the easiest way to get the news out there these days.

And in a recent post, Maisie and Max could be seen standing in front of a mirror, with the singer looking down at his partner's swollen belly, which was covered with a heart emoji.

The pic was also captioned: "We've got some really exciting news... "

The couple posted a cryptic snap to Instagram.

Unsurprisingly, this got fans very excited, with many thinking the couple were having a child together.

But in a follow-up post, it became clear that this was not the case at all.

Instead, it turned out that Maisie had just had a big old meal and was actually a bit bloated.

She joked: "I just had the best five course meal of my life."

Sadly for Maisie and Max, though, the joke didn't exactly go down as well as intended.

Pregnancy is obviously a very delicate subject for many couples out there who are either unable to have children themselves or struggle with conceiving.

And people have since called them out for the insensitive post, which they said is nothing to joke about.

Taking to social media, one irate user said: “I used to like these 2 but not now.

It turned out to be a joke.

"Pregnancy is NOT something to be Joked about. There's people out there that would love to be Parents that would give anything to have a Baby and for whatever reason they can't. So inconsiderate. Shameful."

Another commented: “I love Maisie but as someone who can’t have kids this really hits hard. Pregnancy is no joke to people who can’t have kids."

"That is sad when people are losing babies or cannot conceive pregnancy is not a joke," put a third.

While another added: "Maisie Smith and Max George joking about being pregnant is disgusting. just not something to be joking about."

Not everyone was so outraged, though.

Defending the couple, one person said that people need to stop taking jokes too seriously.

"Nobody can say anything nowadays without people getting offended does my head in especially when their offended on other people's behalf, it was a joke which lasted a few mins, it's not that deep," they said.

TYLA has contacted representatives for Maisie Smith and Max George for comment.
